Easiest way of knowing is put it on a lift or jack it and wiggle it. If it moves slightly then its almost time for a change. If it doesn't move its still good.

Rear ball joints go all the time though. Changed mine twice so far, once at 35k miles and 100k miles.

Also, I forgot to install the deflection/idler pulley. Im wondering how I can do this without the pin for the tensioner. Is it even possible? Anything I can use instead?

Yeah the rears is easy to tell, sit on the trunk or backseat and hop up and down and if you hear squeaking then it needs to be changed.
