I downloaded the SW update from the main BMW website straight onto a USB stick and it took one minute to complete the update.

This said, it didn't recognise my VIN last week, but it was fine today.

I get the same thing. It's annoying and the BMW dealer I contacted he wants my car in for service that I need to pay for.

Downloaded latest update on my stick which was wiped first and all files (19) seem to be in order but when I plug in its telling me there is nothing readable on the disk. Downloaded via a Mac but don't think this could be the issue. Do I have to pay a dealer ro do this?
IDrive latest version looks very exciting but that seems to be a hardware change as well to achieve it - any suggestions would be most welcomed.

Depends how the drive is formatted - if it's a Mac format it won't work.

On a Win10 machine I formatted the USB stick as FAT32.

Recognised and updated in about a minute.

Can you please help me with a Software update to my BMW X1 2010 xdrive 2.0?
I've downloaded latest SW from official BMW page with VIN number into my USB stick, tried before format with FAT32. My car has two USB ports, tried to both but there is no option available "Software Update" on Settings.
Any idea how to solve it?

Is this a serious suggestion?

I'm also having some disconnect between version updates in two separate BMWs: a 2011 BMW 528i and a 2017 430i. The latter .bin updated only one of the three modules (HX), but the TX and MX both are much lower version numbers. The 2011 won't even recognize the bin file as an update.

Any ideas?

You cannot use the same .bin file for both the 2011 and 2017. The .bin you download from BMW uses the VIN to give you the right file for that vehicle. Try going back to the BMW software site and use the 528's VIN to download a new .bin file and try loading that.

I've been having this problem for a while now.
The BMW site says there is an update available UPD09042.bin
I've downloaded it and put it on a USB stick.
When i put it in the car it says that the software on the stick is not compatible.

BMW disabled USB updates on the LCI from what I can gather...BMW told me the LCI 17 plate I have was dealer updates only.
