Well the garage has offered to replace them in a couple of days time. Very pleased as one of the wheels is badly kerb. TBH i thought they would only change 2 of the wheels. Some other work to be carried out before manfact warranty ends. Also nice touch they sent a video by one of the mechanics explaining what they are going to do!
My only gripe is that they may not have resolved the issue so this is potentially going to re-occur.. I will speak to them and see what they can do!

On my old E53 X5, I waited until 35 months to point out the corrosion on the running boards, so the replacements would still be OK for a few years. For those of us intending to run the car for 5/6 years, just before the warranty expires is the ideal time to do this. No sign yet on my 403s, although they are summer use only.

I always remove the centre caps after washing and dry out the wheel hub, as I'm sure the water that lurks behind can't help! Never had a corroded wheel yet!

That means you won't be able to get kerbed wheels replaced for free though!

Do you take your wheels off then? Or are you able to remove the centre cap whilst wheel bolted on? If so, how?

Not for a while. I have a mad 5 minutes every year maybe and might take them off to clean properly and in wheel arches, but always remove centre caps to remove water, which is always in there after a wash! Might not be connected, but can't do any harm...!

Er, okay I just got confused.
So you leave your wheels on usually to wash them, but are able to remove the centre caps?
I ask as I'm looking to see how to remove the centre caps on my new ACS rims, but cant see a way without taking the wheel off the car?

Sorry to resurrect this thread.

My 403M wheels have what appears to be corrosion on the center cap/hub where the BMW fits. I started a thread as well:
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...php?p=20340769

I was wondering if the corrosion issue re-appeared on your wheels? Also any idea if BMW fixed this issue on the new wheels?

Thanks!

I've just had 4 new wheels fitted, I could only see corrosion on one, fair play to the dealer, they checked them all and replaced all four, no problem at all.

Thanks!
I showed it to my service adviser at the BMW dealer today. He said that these wheels cannot corroded. He thinks that the area around the center cap was damaged while trying to remove the caps. He told me to email BMW of North America if I really think that this is corrosion.

What do you guys think? Does this look like corrosion?

I posted this on a similar thread the other day but since then I've taken my car in and the dealer said that was fine, he'll sort me out 4 new ones. No mention of referral to BMW UK.

I got the impression they generally have a degree of discretion to deal with warranty claims anyway, but if it's a 403m with the now "classic" corrosion, to save going through the whole approval process, they just get on with it. He didn't actually use those words but that's what it sounded like.

So soon these will be replaced...

(60,700 miles and 2yrs & 7 months old. Quite badly kerbed, but never repaired)

I am picking up my 'new to me' F31 330d tomorrow. It has one wheel showing corrosion but I still have 9 months of the 3 year warranty left, so will hang fire until after the winter to speak to my local dealer.
