2017 F31 Rear Fog Light question
Folks,
I have a 2017 F31 with the xenon lighting package and am attempting to code and activate the rear fog lights. I have been successful in coding the dashboard indicator lamp and trimmed the rear fog light button. However, when following the directions to code, I am receiving a "two stage lamp malfunction" for both the left and right tail lamps. What am I missing? Does the 2017 F31 (which I believe has the LCI update) not have a upper rear fog light? Do I need to activate anything else in the coding? Any assistance in diagnosing it greatly appreciated! If this has been answered somewhere else, kindly point me in the right direction (did a quick search but couldn't find anything specific except "retrofitting LCI tail lights"). Thanks! |

So I only just learned you yanks don't have fog lights, seems odd but whatever.
I'll ask the stupid question so nobody else has to. Did you check to see if there are bulbs fitted? I know the LCI moved to LED lighting clusters but have a funny feeling fogs are still halogen. AFAIK, most bmws have two stage brake lights which means if you hit the brakes hard it also illuminates the rear fogs as a warning to other drivers. Could be that you've coded the fogs to work and turned on two stage braking by association but somehow not turned on hot/cold fog bulb checking as such but it triggers the warning as it can't two-stage without working fogs. |

The joys of being a coding newbie...
So it appears there are lights there but will need to remove the rear paneling to confirm. May try taking a picture and post it later. It just seems rather remarkable that BMW (or their tailight supplier) would remove bulbs that RoW uses just for the US market. Am I crazy to think so? Even the owner's manual refers to a light where the rear fogs should be...
I did see this thread relating to the LCI tailights (https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1174188) but it mentions a) retrofit and b) purchasing replacement lights. Also need to edit my original post...I have the LED lighting package and not the Xenons. |

FYI I just checked my 2018 F30 (Adaptive LED) and the fogs are led so assume yours will be too. There's another F31 rear lights forum near the top of the most recent posts which might help. Someone mentioned you have to code the fact they're LED but I'm a coding noob. Good luck

Found the solution! In "Expert" mode using BimmerCode:
REM Module REM -> Mapping_Nebelschlussl_L_output: nsl_l REM -> Mapping_Nebelschlussl_R_output: nsl_r FEM_BODY 3060 NSL_Verbaut: verbaut Thanks to tom @ eas for the write up here: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1023817 |

OP, I coded my '17 F31 LCI and moded the fog light switch for rear fog. Everything works well.
With climate change there are more and more times I use rear fog up here in Toronto. Torrential downpour, snow blizzards and of course heavy fog.

I have a 2019 Gran Coupe and also went through the steps to mod the button. The indicator light comes on in Kombi however nothing lights up in back. This is a feature I used often living in Big Bear on my Range Rover and would be useful on this car also. Im using Bimmercode app
