But of those types of cars the S2000 is renowned for robust mechanicals.

I do agree and thought the same, but read the forums for any length of time and it can unnerve you!!! Mine was fine fortunately. But an engine replacement is around 5k and there's been a few go! That said main other issue is with the calipers sticking which is quite minor. Oh and roofs wear badly but you can get replacements for 280 quid if you're prepared to go to Swansea!
Do lots of research on the ones you consider to buy and you should be fine. |

For me it would have to be a Boxster/Cayman GTS or a F Type R.
If I ever win the lottery I would buy one of those to complement the F30. Alex |

It isn't just the wealthy tax dodgers though - raising revenue through fuel duty means that virtually the entire black market economy (drugs, prostitution, workmen paid in cash...) can't just scrounge off the state without paying something back. |

That would get more from the wealthy has not so easy to hide your house as an asset. Also, would persuade asset rich but cash poor old folk to sell up and move somewhere smaller, and release houses which should be lived in by families.

I'll repeat it again; fuel duty is indiscriminate, you'd hit normal tax payers just as hard, if not harder than the people you're trying to get tax from and are you forgetting people have to buy stuff, VAT on non essentials ? Also you'd reduce productivity, if you reduce peoples income whilst I get that you suggest you'd reduce income tax, that again will be ineffective you really need to give it more thought than "I dislike tax avoiders" |

And also doing a bare metal rebuild of my MK1 Capri. Had it for about 30 years, and tucked it away in a couple of sheds for about 15 years. Slowly coming back to life. Pic below as dug out - and what I am aiming for. D.

The big problem with that is people who want to work, will actually travel a fair distance to work. A simple check of our works car park shows a large number of cars in excess of 10 years old and probably not that efficient. Raising fuel duty would impact my workers, therefore increase in wages, less staff. My view is another level of VAT, anything above 1k has 30% vat for example. Or even £900 no one really needs anything costing over that. Note cars and bikes would be excluded, purely things like watches, tv's etc. Fuel duty kills rural economy as there is a much larger distance to travel, compared with suburban people. A tighter closing of loop holes with off shore accounts should be more ridgedly enforced. I would even say that UK citizens should only be allowed UK savings, no more Cyprus savings funds etc. If someone pays 100k on a car they will not worry about fuel Tax or road tax. Vat and poll tax would hit them. |

The fact that your family probably use aggressive avoidance via GC means that you aren't paying what you should in my view. It may be legal, but isn't morally acceptable as I see it. You might have a different perspective if you got off your arse and worked for a living. Back on topic. I like the 335d enough that the toy would have to be pretty special, which may mean a 458. More realistically I may just replace the 335d with an M5 at some point. |

If we literally scrapped ALL tax in favour of a high rate of VAT on a wider range of goods and services, then we would massively simplify tax. That would save an enormous amount of admin. Imagine getting your pay slip and knowing every single penny was yours to keep (or spend) |
