Caring for and keeping M Sport steering wheel clean

I posted this in 2 series forum, but I figured I would get more reply's here since there are more F30s roaming around than F22s and our M Sport Steering wheels are the same....

I always make sure to have clean hands when touching the wheel, always try to make sure my hands are not sweaty. Yet somehow the wheel is now shiny and sticky at 9 and 3 o'clock position where I mostly keep my hands when driving like Ricky Bobby.

I use a wet microfiber clothe and wipe the wheel about once a week but it seems like that's not helping. I know it will never be like new with its soft matte touch leather but I want to get it back to as close as possible, part of the reason I got m sport is because of the steering wheel. I have never used any kind of leather care on the wheel as to not risk damaging it.

What product have you tried that works for our steering wheels? ( not sure if its novillo or nappa leather I believe on our f22 and f30s )

Again I mostly want that matte NON shiny look and touch, as close to the new as possible.

I searched f30 forums as well and some say that nothing more than a wet microfiber cloth is all that's needed.

Please help to find a product as I really want to restore the wheel? Maybe I should use some kind of moisturizer or some cleaner?

There is a BMW leather care set with UV protection - has anyone tried this on the leather wheel on the f22s or 30s? Results?

Any other brands?

Thanks for any help.

on a side note, BMW interior cleaner has the most insatiable smell. Too bad it doesn't last long. Wish they made a car scent with this smell. It works really good too.

Thanks

Roman

I'm with you and I've found great success with turtle ice interior cleaner. Leaves it soft, no shine, and feeling like day 1. Spray a bit on the mft and grip it a bit as you go around. I do this every three to four weeks. Works great. Good cleaner for the dash, leather, and any other part of the interior.

The BMW leather care is very good. I've used it on several BMWs for many years to great results; does stink though for a few days, but that's the natural scent.

I'm so sick and tired of guys coming on here talking about Turtle Wax and Armor All junk from Auto Zone and using it on a BMW. You ain't 19 anymore and this isn't your 96 Civic!

There are lots of great leather products from Lexol, Adams, Chemical Guys, etc. you purchase these quality brands online, not Wal-Mart. Wise investments if you wish to keep your car looking it's best.

Just search Amazon or something and you'll find great options. Get some leather cleaner and leather conditioner. Most good stuff is UV protectant. Apply monthly to the wheel.

I use Leatherique Prestine Cleaner once/month for cleaning and use Einszett "Lederpflege" Leather Care every 4 months for conditioning the leather.

So far after 2 years of ownership, my steering wheel still has that matte look and feel.

I've been trying so hard to do this as well to no avail, I had my steering wheel replaced with a new one and I've been craving that dry matted feel.

The leather becomes shiny from a combination of wear and oil/sweat from your hands. I make it a point to always have clean hands when driving and to not tightly grip the steering wheel of I don't have to.

Leather master conditioner every few months with 303 Aerospace once in a while has done the trick for me.

I am with you. Wet fiber cloth is not helping at all. Searching for a good solution.

Way to revive the old thread!

The shining comes from two things; the oils in your hands, which you can't control and product that's built up because you didn't wipe enough off after applying.

The products mentioned a couple years ago in this thread still hold true.

Purchase from either Amazon, or even better, Autogeek.net. Place also had tutorials and is probably the most legit and trusted source for detailing products and equipment.

I'd recommend Chemical Guys Leather Cleaner.

Since this thread was already risen... I suggest folks check out AmmoNYC leather cleaner. I've been using the stuff for years, worked very well on my Nappa leather interior on the S4 and works equally well on the Msport steering wheel and seats in my F30. I personally use the conditioner on the seats but not on the steering wheel it gets plenty of oils and crap from my hands.

Baby wipes. Use one after two or three days of driving. Quick wipe. Let it dry. Perfectly clean and Matt. Nice.

Wet your microfiber towel with warm water and wipe it. Use dry and clean towel to dry the steering wheel. This should help to get the oils. After that maybe u can try to use leather cleaner to finish it.
