Swapping out muffler 435i GC
Thinking of change out the stock muffler. I am just trying to gather as much info as I can before I do anything but I don't like the stock exhaust. I would like a little more sound. I am wondering if there would be any issues cutting off the stock muffler and getting something aftermarket. I also want to change the tips. I know space is limited but I would like larger exhaust tips. So its just a muffler right? Shouldn't be rocket science. I notice a wire going to a black box on the drivers side exhaust tip. Is this the sound enhancer?

Sounds like you just want an axle back exhaust with larger sized tips. There's a lot of routes you could go with this but the most recommended ones are usually AWE and Remus. Both offer attractive aftermarket tips. The axle back will wake up the car a bit from a sound perspective, but just be known it won't give you that aggressive deep sound (down pipe and resonator change this) in case you are expecting that. Search youtube for sound clips to try and see what you would like.

I am very happy with my Dinan exhaust. It's fairly deep, with only the axle back. I'm not sure I'd like it if I didn't have a tune that added the burbles and pops, though.
Absolutely ZERO drone. This was all I really cared about when looking for more noise.

Wow both are amazing options but way over my price range. I think I'll see what an exhaust shop can do. I am just looking to get a little more sound without breaking the bank.

Also, since no one's mentioned it yet, that little black box with the wire attached is the exhaust flap module.

Thank you for bringing this up. What exactly does this do? Is this the golf tee mod?

"Golf tee mod" is a bit of a misnomer as it's electronically controlled (as opposed to pneumatic in previous generations) so no actual golf tee is used. There are a couple ways to hack it to stay open all the time and there are several threads about it if you're interested.

Start the car. Get out and under the exhaust side with the flap. Once you hear it open, pull the connector out of the module. At this point, you can kill the ignition. I wrapped the male end in electrical tape, nestled it back in the module and secured it with a bit more electrical tape to prevent any potential water damage. You might want to practice plugging and unplugging the connector with the car off so you're not struggling with it with your head next to the exhaust pipe. It would probably help even more to jack the back left corner up before you get started. The other method apparently has to do with pulling the fuse(s) associated with the flap. I haven't tried it myself.

Won't work on f36. Flap operation isn't like other f3x. Flap only opens during load. This is all in an effort to reduce drone in the design of the f36.
Luckily bootmod3 keeps the flaps open . What I did before bm3 was remove the spring from the flap motor and used some stainless wire to keep the flap open |

Sorry, totally missed this question. There is a little sprint between the actuator and the actual flap pivot. You should be able to easily stick a screwdriver in there and pop it out
