Thumbs down Door pockets

This is the first BMW that I've owned that doesn't have felt flocking on the bottom of the door pockets (why did they even bother to put it on the one side, it serves no purpose at all). Things slide forward when I brake and backwards when I accelerate, it's kind of annoying. It's a big step down from the nice E92 tilt-out flocked ones!

Do you guys line your door pockets with anything to keep stuff from sliding back and forth? And if you do, beside monkey testicles (I figured I'd give myself a snarky answer so you don't have to) what did you use?

thanks

Never thought about it. My compact umbrella fits perfectly.

What are you trying to keep in there?

Mine is a coupe so it has long doors, and further travel. I keep a small litter bag, pair of reading glasses and small pack of tissues on my side. My passenger side is empty because my small first aid kit went back and forth too much but passengers always put their stuff in there and it slides back and forth. I don't want to "pack it" with a ton of stuff just to keep things from sliding, I like minimal things visible in a car.

** I was just in my car and realized that the coupe's pocket is probably not longer than the sedan's. There's a whole lot of unused realestate in that door!

Get some silicon draw liners, cut to shape and put in the bottom. Easy peasy and no slip.

That's what I was thinking too, but didn't know if it would look bad or melt into the pocket making a mess, so I thought I'd check out if any other options were out there. Thank you!

I don't put anything in there but an insulated water bottle or an umbrella and they don't move around at all. Knick-knacks go in the trunk, glove box, or middle compartment where they can't move. Sunglasses and reading glasses go in the small compartment under the steering wheel on the left side.

Weird, never thought about it. I've never had a vehicle with anything in the pockets before. My E90 sedan didn't have anything but plastic at the bottom (I don't think it did!)

I just put my sunglass case in there, and it's wide enough that it doesn't move, so a non-issue for me.

I've got sunglasses, my ez-pass (which I can't stand on my windshield even though it's in a nice leather case), and a dusting rag in the small compartment, so that's full.

Yeah, it sucks, at 40 my "reading-eyes" just went but I can still see far perfectly. I am looking forward to bifocal years when they are always on my face instead of on and off.

I just looked at Presto felt and so far, it is my top pick since I am used to felt being in there. I am still trying to figure out why they lined the one panel that you can't see with felt flocking. thank you

No problem. It's not quite as bad as Cadillac has done but nonetheless, it's odd. I'm buying some now.

I keep a flashlight and a pair of gloves. The light is a good people beater and the gloves keeps it wedged in there so it doesn't slide around.

I wondered this too, then figured it was to reduce any knocking, tapping sounds from articles hitting the insides of the plastic panel. Also, notice that there's felt on the seat belt buckles next to the center armrest console. My 2003 E46 doesn't have felt either in the pocket area or the seat belt buckle so there's knocking sounds from those areas. Will have to look for the Presto felt you mention.

My guess is cost cutting was the reason! The E90 in my opinion had a better finished interior all round! I tend to either fill the pocket up so stuff doesn't slide around, sunglasses case, drink bottle etc or just leave it empty! But felt lining sounds like a good idea, as long as you make a good job of it, cuz once you've glued it in... it ain't coming out!!

You made a liar out of me. I guess this is my second BMW without flocking, but I don't remember my '04 E46 M3 having this problem with things sliding.
And that felt on the seat belt buckles makes a BIG difference in knocking. Mine peeled off of my 911 in the heat and what a racket it made until I glued it back on!

Having the reading glasses handy also help manage expiration dates on the stack of coupons from McDonald's/Burger King that end up in there as well.

I only keep water bottles there and that's what the design implies. Not too sure what you are stuffing in there that's moving around. Other things such as sunglasses I keep in the tiny storage compartment to the left of my steering wheel.

Everything else goes in the trunk.

Just get some black felt and spray adhesive from a local arts and crafts or hobby store.

It's going to be a nightmare to clean as well. I'd definitely go for something removable.

I have an E92 coupe with the tilt-out door pockets. It's a nice feature that seems like a small thing, but gives an upgrade feel to the interior and makes it easier to get things into and out of the pocket.

It's disappointing that this feature was discontinued; it couldn't be very expensive to include. For the extra few dollars per car (if that), it contributes more to the quality of the experience.

I agree, they're like that on my Cayman and definitely gives an upmarket feel. But I'm afraid cost cutting is to blame as the F30/32 interiors are not quite up to the same standard as the e90/92 models in my opinion (I've owned both)

When costing up a car to manufacture, this feature would certainly have saved a few $$$ which sadly is more than enough to warrant a downgrade if they're building a car to a certain price point. Imagine all the areas where they saved a few $$ here and a few $$ there, it all adds up to hundreds of $$...
