Blower fan noise

My car has only 2200km on it. When I set the thermostat to max cool I get a loud grinding noise from the vents on the passenger side. When recirculation and A/C is off the blower operates normal. What is the issue? is anyone else experiencing this? I read that cleaning the micro filter under the glovebox may fix the issue but this car is brand new. If I do send the car back to the dealer would this issue be prone again?

thanks friends, any info would help!

I have the same problem with my 2013 335i. I live in Germany and it will go to the dealer on Saturday. Did you ever resolve the problem?

I had this on mine where you turn the speed above 4 it made a grinding noise on the passenger side, the dealership had to replace the blower.

They had the car for a couple of days but all fixed now and no noise!!

I'm sitting at a dealer in Germany right now. My car is a US spec 2013 335i but I am stationed here with the military so I have a very very long European delivery . They said that the recirculating air sucked up a piece of paper that made it past the microfilter and into the blower. They said it may have been a production flaw and are familiar with it and fixing it now. They are also fixing all my dash trim around the vents and the display so that it doesn't make creaking sounds over bumps or during temperature changes when the plastic pieces expand and contract.

so my problem got resolved by itself. When the noised started occurring the car was in the garage and it was around 40 degree celsius in there. When the temperature dropped to 25c couple days later the noise stopped. Then another couple days the temperature went up to 40 again but this time no noise. Im guessing the new plastic in the vents and around the blower were expanding and normalizing at extreme temperatures. Its been over a month in high heat and no problems anymore. BTW this car is built in the Munich plant. If its grinding give the plastic time to cool and normalize before cranking the vents on MAX. My guess is the blower is built to a very small tolerance for optimum pressure.

I get a loud noise and vibration through the dash when I put the blower above position 4 or on Max when de-icing the front screen (sounds like an old motor bike). It definitely sounds like a mechanical issue with the blower motor (I hear they are failing on the new 1 series?). I will take it to the dealership when I get the time as it sounds like a warranty issue

My 2013 BMW F30 335i makes the same fan noise. It has been to the dealer twice already, and it's starting to do it a third time. I've only had the car for 3 months. There is nothing they could do to fix it. If I have to go to the dealer once a month for this, that means 60 trips to the dealer in 5 years. The vents are made of cheap plastic that creaks when they expand or contract from the temperature. A Honda Civic makes less interior noise. I should have bought a Lexus IS 350.

Mine did the same, apparently it was full of leaves and they need to order a new "foliage grill" from Germany...?!

Since they cleaned it out its now quiet again at full blast....for now!

Same thing. Dealer said it was leaves but they also changed the resistor on the blower unit. I'm not sure they knew what they we're doing.

My 328i is doing this too on high and MAX. On the passenger side but this is on the left being a UK RHD model.

My E90 LCI did this too and I was able to clear the leaves from the fan myself, but because the F30 has a more sophisticated climate control, I cannot gain access.

Not yet! Still waiting for it, dealer said its on back order from Germany.....must mean its a rare or very common problem in my book!

I took my car into the dealer they claimed that the microfilter was "blocked and split" They replaced the filter and it is slightly quieter, however at full speed it still sounds and vibrates like a dyson vacum cleaner. The dealer told me they had 3 cars in that week with the same problem! My vents and dash creaks and crack when it starts to heat up. The F30 is not up to it in terms of quality and is starting to annoy me and already regreting my purchase after 8 weeks!

My car is going back into the dealer on Tuesday as my Noisy fan is back worse than ever, it is definitely the blower motor. Also just noticed both my rear lights have condensation in them so they will need replaced too

Same here. I always keep the AC on Automatic / Low but it's very noisy. If I turn the AC off, the noise goes away and you're left only with the normal shuuuush of the air blowing out. Turn AC on again, it starts making a lot of noise.
This is stupid when you pay $48k on German "engineering".

My car has been back to the dealer for a second time with a noisy climate fan. They said leaves were found in it again and have fitted a BMW Mod kit which is basically a bit of mesh to stop this happening. It is quieter now but in my opinion it is still a very noisy fan when at position 4 and above...my courtesy car was the same so I guess this is just the way it is.

Rehashing this tread!
I have a '14 328i, 95 miles on it. When I'm in "D" and climate control is on and at a complete stop. I get a vibration noise like my cheap 2000 Escort used to have. If I turn the fan off, put the car in neutral, or start driving the noise goes away.

So annoying - but I don't want a dealer fiddling with it unless there is a fix otherwise I'll end up with some other problem
