I am Mohamed from Egypt owning f30 316 and looking seriously for power mirror folding retrofit

I have contacted the local authorized agency, and they claims it's difficult to do

I would like to have more details regarding the retrofitting and parts number if available specially wiring part number

Is it really complex for wiring fitting? And important thing does your bmw authorized dealer offer such retrofitting ?

Thanks

For my folding mirrors I had a Indy fitter complete the job. It wasn't complex or difficult to do. The switch had to be wired up to the canbus and fem updated and coded.

The fitter does work for BMW dealers, but the couple I contacted couldn't do it.

I suggest talking to local independent BMW garages - they should easily sort it.

Not sure what happened to the PM .... however

The stealer were quite happy to sell me the power folding mirrors (£450 each! sans cap and mirror glass) and switch unit (£110) but did not have a scoobys on which wires I needed.

On ebay the switches are around £70 and the folding, dipping and dimming mirrors are around £200 to £500. Fitting is 1.5 to 2hrs which would be £120-£150 at a good indy.

The other place to get the parts from is a second hand parts place

The ebay search I used was ...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_fr...:MEFSRCHX:SRCH

In terms of part numbers ....

mirror + housing http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_9005

glass ... http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_8491

switches ... http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=61_3120

possible wiring loom (though fitter did not need this) ....http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=61_2983

I've attached some pics from an folding mirror + ebay add ....

They haven't got an official retrofit kit (unlike say the reversing camera) so they need the knowledge to be able to do it - when I enquired in feb 15 they didn't.

The fitter I used regularly did work for BMW main stealers around the redditch/Midlands area, so I could have got it through the BMW UK authorised stealer.

Normally, I have received the same answer, not officially announced by bmw AG

Have you performed this retrofit after warranty period ? Does it breach the warranty period if done throughly ?

Do you face any instability or error or perfectly fit ?

Thanks

If the Fitter does the work under a BMW dealer with new BMW parts - it has a warranty under the sales of goods act - however I doubt the it would be covered by the 3 year car warranty. This would be the same with official retrofit kits - they would not be part of the 3 year car warranty.

The folding mirror retrofit like the official reverse camera retrofit requires tapping into the canbus with proper connectors. Shouldn't be a problem for a good fitter - from what I could see it wasn't a major job.

Providing it's done properly, it's a perfect fit, no coding problems and it all functions as expected. So far (touch wood) mine works perfectly - dipping, dimming and folding almost used on a daily basis.
