Changes between '16, '17, and '18 340i?
Hi
Does anyone have a list or know where I can find out what were the major changes between the '16, '17, and '18 models? Thinking about buying a used one but some features may be important for me while balancing price. Thanks |

No major changes really happened, if you were looking at a prelci and an lci car then there would've been major changes

MY2018 is LCI!
So yes, some more significant (but also not groundbreaking) changes in the LCI.

These are all LCI for the F30 (were you thinking of the 4-series instead?) If it's a 340 as opposed to 335, it's LCI.
Most of the changes in these years were just in the package structure. There's also a new iDrive UI and a touchscreen in later cars. |

2018 has iDrive 6 (touch screen) -
2018 added a standard backup camera (before, it was optional) Before 2018, Enhanced bluetooth was bundled with Apple Car Play. Now it is bundled with wireless charging and wireless hotspot |

I went to test drive one a few weeks ago and found out the Harman Kardon audio is now standard on 340i.

Thanks everyone-
Yes, I sort of meant what became "standard" as well as any technical changes like LED headlights and what new options became available so that I can focus on finding a car with those options. It seems the 2016-2018 all have the same LED headlight? Then the 2018 comes with backup camera as a federal mandated standard. Looks like the 2018 has all the biggest changes and goodies. |

Also, watch out when you’re comparing packages from year to year. A lot of options moved around between packages in 2018, like the two examples I gave. Last edited by supermarket; 08-14-2018 at 03:45 PM.. Reason: Fix tag |

It's important to note that the standard LED headlights have received some criticism for being dimmer than the older HIDs. I wasn't able to test the car at night so I can't say if that's valid or not. The adaptive LED are supposed to be better.

Scroll down and click on headlights. Acceptable with the Adaptive (lighting package), poor without. Other years are similar. For me, it's a must have. I'm in process of assuming a lease on a 2017. |

Couple things:
1 -- There were structural changes in 2017 so that the 3 series passes the IIHS small over lap test. So, I'd get a 2017 or newer (unless you don't care about your legs getting crushed in a small overlap crash). 2 -- The LCI LED headlights are great and are PLENTY bright -- PLENTY!! The problem is that they are pointed WAY too low. Just point them up a little bit, where they should be (obviously don't blind oncoming cars) and I you will love them. I love using the fog lights in the city as well -- really helps see the to the side of the road where people are walking, crossing the street (where you want to turn), etc. These are some of the best headlights I've ever had in any car, although I'm not keen on the color temp -- hard to see on freshly paved, wet, blacktop and snow, for example. |

Mostly they just keep getting a few 100 bucks more expensive every year while they shuffle around options between available packages.
