For the MT I used MOTUL or redline fluids but previously have used LUCAS with great results and lower temps as well. Mainly use MT-90 weight (factory spec). For the Diff I use 75w90( for spirited driving and also it's the factory spec). But you can upgrade all the way from a 90 to 110 to 140 if you track or drive the car hard or launch it a lot. M3 uses 140 in the diff.
DO NOT USE MTL (Even though Redline spec page says it's ok), it's too thin for our trans and any hard driving will result in bearing/ syncro wear/ whining and will destroy your trans.

Going to have my mechanic do this since I don't have access to the a lift and I don't want to get the pump/etc for the job. I know he's done this a lot and for the trans I'd rather leave it to him.

Has anyone done a legit search for all needed components for a proper ZF trans service?
Wondering what the total DIY cost is. Anyone have part numbers handy? |

They have kits on fcp euro and ecs, I don't think I'm allowed to state prices here for other company's but it's reasonably priced

Think about how many people will actually use it? The majority of people will sell their cars long before those components fail. The marketing is good to get people coming back again and again to buy parts for their cars. Lose a little to gain a lot in the long run.

Was doing a bit of research. Apparently the recommended ATF for the ZF 8HP transmission is:
Shell L12108 BMW PN: 83 22 2 152 426 Initial filling is 8.8L so depending on how much you get out... buying 8L of ATF should be the trick but maybe you dont use it all. |

Where did you see it fits our cars? I prefer your pricing for fluid haha. EDIT: Nevermind google hoodwinked me and sprinkled in some cheaper fluid for older cars in the results when I tried lookin up this oil. It seems this is identical to lifeguard 8 fluid. In fact it usually comes up as lifeguard fluid. |

Definitely change it. ZF recommends changing the fluid at 50k-75k miles for this transmission. The Bentley manual states 100k. I would change it ASAP, especially if you plan on keeping the car long term. These transmissions can cost as much as 5 or 6 grand used, you don't want to go down that road.

I think however ZF says to change it at 50k if operated under "harsh conditions" so I'm sure stretching it to 100k if you drive your car normally with a bit of spirited driving in your commutes will be fine. I would not wait longer than 100k if you are going to change it at all.
That's my personal limit. |

At least how it worked for me. Bought oil change kit from them Bought another oil change kit from them Returned kit #1 Got $55 credit back. Costs me $20 to mail them the old oil so basically moving forward im paying $20 for an oil change because I plan on using the credit to buy oil change kit #3 from them when the time comes. |
