looks like the new 1 series may go front wheel drive as well probably because the average hatchback buyer does not understand the difference between fwd & rwd and it will drive down production costs no doubt and increase profits!!!!!!! (oh how cynical am I?)

That appears to be an old article, they refer to 2013 being in the future a couple of times. Mentioning that it was supposed to appear in the showrooms last year!

Yes think that was announced quite a while ago. 1 series will be FWD sharing the mini platform I thought. Grab an M135i while you can, bargain and soon to be extinct RWD hit hatchery!
X7 and the 9 series will fill up the top end too. Those dealers better keep extending the showrooms!

based on comments however all I will say is, the 1 series makes sense as a FWD car it's just ungainly and id rather they make a fwd 1er than some god awful mini clubman |
