Is this a ZHP shift knob?

Or is the ZHP shift knob shorter than this? How about the M-Performance shift knob, is it shorter than this?

Yeah, it's the M Sport shifter, which has the ZHP style shift knob. I believe it's shorter than the non M-Sport manual shifter, but I'm not positive.

The M Performance shifter is shorter and is made with Alcantara.

Yeah it's a tad shorter than the regular knob and is weighted. It was the first mod I did to my Sport Line car, the regular knob sucks.

So you replaced the M Sport shifter (pictured) with the M Performance shifter?

I replaced the standard (non-m sport) with the one pictured above.

I posted a pic of the knob on my IG and a bunch of folks commented that they actually kept fheirs from prev models to transfer to new cars. The MSport/ZHP shifter is one of the best pieces in a BMW's 6sp driving experience.

Ok, so the consensus is don't switch out the MSport/ZHP knob for the M Performance knob.

I was trying to get shorter throws without installing a short shifter. I have not read any positive reviews of short shifters for the f30.

Anyone have any positive experiences replacing the stock shifter with MSport knob to a short shifter, still with MSport knob?

The thing about short shifters is that they feel best when the action is precise and positive. BMW shifters have a tendency to feel a bit rubbery. I test drove an E39 M5 with a short shifter and it didn't feel all that great because of the rubbery feel.

The short shifter kits for the F30 also angle your shift knob so it's not lined up properly. That would drive me crazy.

On other platforms I know a lot of people just cut the shaft. The only benefit to not having a knob that actually screws on.

Anyone have anymore info here? My OEM shift knob on my Sportline drives me nuts, It has a horrible feel and shifts could be so much more fluid.

if no one likes the M knobs for the $$$, Anyone out there running any aftermarket knobs like raceseng or others?

The ZHP knob is a massive improvement being leather and weighted. There aren't many aftermarket options because it is a slip on style, not a screw on. I bought my ZHP for 45 bucks on eBay.

Has anyone just cut the stock shifter to shorten it?

I just discovered the raceseng knobs. But is THIS what it looks like with the "bmw adapter?"

I want the overall height to be less than my zhp knob, not higher. Anyone confirm?

It will probably make it a bit higher with an adapter. You'll want to find a BMW specific shifter. Why not just get the M Performance shifter? It is definitely lower and it looks nice. The ZHP shift knob is just a nice "Goldilocks" classic design. That's why people like it so much. If you want something sportier, the M Perf version is probably what you need.

Cutting down the shift lever is probably a bad idea. There is a little key slot that keeps the shifter knob from twisting which you'd lose. There's also a taper on the shaft so cutting it might not actually allow you to lower the knob much if at all.

I actually just looked on the raceseng website and it looks like their adapters actually slide completely over the shift lever so probably wouldn't add any height to your shift knob at all. Scroll to the bottom of this website:

Car is my daily driver. I am in the process of improving the overall feel of the car: about to install a CDV-delete clutch slave cylinder, ordered Ultimate Clutch Pedal, and lastly I was hoping to decrease the throw on the shifter without installing a short shifter. I actually like the way the shifter feels when it goes into gear, the throws are just too long. So most driving is done with one hand on the wheel. Oh and I installed the larger clutch stop.

Wc lathe werks makes a great knob with lots of options ... I'm just not sure how the boot would work, I don't think it would be attached. I almost bought one four times now I loved it in the Subaru.

You're right about the zhp shifter being a "Goldilocks", every time I look down at the shifter I feel like am driving my teenage dream car...and I'm 40!

I am actually not a fan of the m performance shifter. The white stitching on the boot looks cheesy and shifter itself is...eh.

I like that simple non-etched sphere from lathe werks...too bad there is no where for the boot to go.

Yeah it's a tad shorter than the regular knob and is weighted. It was the first mod I did to my Sport Line car, the regular knob sucks.

I'm debating of doing just that.

I couldn't find this earlier but you there are a few different emblems out there. You can get just that emblem part # and I imagine swap it on. I kinda want to go to the plain 6 speed it would fit the car better. I think there's an old roundel one out there that may be the same size.

https://www.leatherz.com/products/zhp-short-shift-knob

I didn't see the threaded one linked above .. I was excited but after looking at all of them I'm disappointed. It's tough to supplant the leather knob.

FYI if you want shorter throws you have to change the shifter below the pivot. Shortening the knob doesn't do anything apart from looks. Google it look at some pictures. And dear lord you are keeping your _hand on it .. and want to cut it ....
