OT: Shell fill up and go/PayPal service

http://www.shell.co.uk/motorist/shel...up-and-go.html

Anyone else get the email today from shell regarding this new service they're about to launch?

Basically you link your PayPal account to a shell app then scan a QR on the pump, then fill up and go, they email you a receipt... How very 2015!

Looks quite interesting as a concept, as at times I really can't be arsed with queueing in the shop and pay at the pump is a bit of a faff often.

Well I did wonder how the shell franchise owners will like it when it's used by folk as an excuse for exactly that!
Not to mention their reduced numbers of punters to sell large bars of chocolate to for a £1.

Bloody great idea. It winds me up how few pay at pump places there are, because they want you to go in the shop and buy stuff, but I hardly ever do, as in 3 times a year might buy something.

Also having been a biker pay at pump is great due to the amount of stupid forecourts that demand you remove your lid which is simply a pita.

What about when it takes them 5 minutes to work out how to pay at pump

Just looking at the details and there is one thing that puts me off... you have to decide in advance how much fuel you want. Then the pump dispenses that amount, or cuts off if your tank is filled before that, as in normal filling.

BUT the Paypal transaction is for the pre-decided limit amount, e.g. £100. The difference between the limit amount and the actual amount is then rebated to your account up to 5 days later.

I can see that it would suit someone who puts in £xx at a time, but it appears to be very unwieldy if you always fill the tank (like me).

Now I see !!!!

At my local shell - using shell instead of supermarket they had a promo going on the loyalty cards - the penny challenge - basically if you fill up with exactly £10 of fuel you get 150 points £20 gets you 300 points and so on. Points give you money off fuel vouchers.

How easy would it be to pre pay say £30 and reap those extra points.

Sometimes my ingenuity even amazes me
