If you added the option Via coding and never had the orange white option stock And it was never working stock, then you don’t have the hardware for it.

If it was working before you added the y cable your Y cable is bad.

For cars without lighting package (no footwell led, no cupholder led): I also don't hace the package, but I manage to wire the trim.
You will need a lighter, a cutter (if you don't have the female connector), and a multimeter.
What to do:

-Take off the top trim (with the vents) and unplug the wires.
-You will need to connect to the "+" which is supplying power to the door lock button LED. To find it, hook up the multimeter to the pins and adjust the dashboard light intensity, and find the pin which has voltage changes when adjusting the dial. When you find it, that's your guy.
-Hookup the ground and the color wires, like in the original DIY
-Put everything back

In order to 'hook up', you will need the lighter. Just heat a small aprt of the wires a bit, and then remove the plastic with your hand.
I'll provide a picture of the wires I used when I'll get the chance. Mine works perfectly and it even changes intensity with the rest of the dashboard.

This is awesome. I purchased the ambient trim a few days ago and was sadden to find that my 2016 428i did not have the cup holder led. I was about to return the item but this doesn't seem to difficult. A tutorial video would be great lol. Looking forward to updates.

Thanks

Later build non-LCi cars with Lighting Package but no Cupholder LED can do what I just did, which will add both the LCi trim light AND the cupholder light. It's the same idea as Chew's (pg. 15)... but for people who don't want to make their own cables.

1. Order the LCi radio trim (64119358940) and Cupholder LED module (63319242162)

2. Order the longer "footwell length" cable from eBay. I bought this one from a seller in the UK and even though it was a bit expensive... this gave me the option to power both the trim and the cupholder lights via one integrated cable. If there's not one for sale, you can contact him via eBay and I believe he can list one for purchase. You can also go the cheaper chinese route and get something like this one, but that will only power the trim and NOT the cupholder light... you'll need another splitter for that like this. I found it was worth it to get the cable from England, as it's built with OEM sleeves and connectors plus length is perfect. He also included some detailed instructions.

3. Once you have all of these, it should look something like this:

4. I decided to tap the footwell light from the passenger side... it's the same as the driver's side, just less clutter (no pedals). Follow Chew's post for the general idea.

5. the new LCi trim will have a slight gap between the edges and dash... which I initially thought was something not lined up correctly. But after looking at it closely, that gap is where the light shines through... by design.

I also used Bimmercode to "decouple" the ambient lighting from the dash lights, so they can be controlled independently... one via iDrive and the other with the dimmer wheel. All in all this is a subtle interior enhancement for $100-150

Yep. Seems perfect to me. The white is hardly noticeable on the doors so I keep it on the orange which gives a really nice effect in the cabin. Matches perfect.

you can search BMW F3x AC/Radio Y-cable on ebay. you can find lots of such cables. There are some very cheaper ones from China, which I have bought and works for me.

Hey

I did this retrofit on my f80 m3 but the lower center trim panel is loose with the new f30 Lci trim. I called dealers for newer Lci trims on m3 and it’s the same part number for the ac control trim.

Anyone else experience the lower trim not snapping back in place or loose? It’s the lower trim with cup holder light. I checked the wires to make sure it’s not causing as well.

Another solution I’m thinking is to somehow 3m double side tape by the tabs or something.

Let me know folks!

Hi,

Make sure nothing is in the way, then firmly push up. The new trim is a tighter fit.

Not sure if anyone else in here has done the research or not; or if you really care. However, if you're tired of paying for BMW's ridiculously inflated prices trying to build a adapter harness.. I've done the ground work finding equivalent part numbers for you. It blows my mind that for some reason BMW thinks it's ok to charge owners a 200-900% markup on electrical parts because they put the part into a BMW zip-lock plastic bag.

Anyways, I found alternate part numbers available outside the BMW network which shouldn't cost you much more than five dollars to build the harness..

2x Universal pin terminal uncoded 3 POL. p/n 61136931929 ~$ 915% markup
2x TE Connectivity AMP uncoded pin housing 3 POL p/n 1-968700-1 ~$0.60 ea

2x Universal socket housing uncoded 3 POL. p/n 61138377072 ~$ 900% markup
2x TE Connectivity AMP socket housing uncoded 3 POL p/n 1-1718346-1 ~$0.50 ea

3x bushing contact 0,2- 0,5MM² #61138369696 (without cable) ~$ 750% markup
3x TE MQS Connection Socket 0,2- 0,35MM² [20- 24awg] p/n 5-928999-1 (without cable) ~$0.20 ea

3x pin contact 0,2- 0,35MM² #61131383672 (without cable) ~$ 700% markup
3x TE MQS Pin Contact 0,2- 0,35MM² [20- 24awg] p/n 1-928918-1 (without cable) ~$0.24 ea

3x pin contact 0,5-0,75 MM² #61131393723 (without cable) ~$ 700% markup
3x TE MQS Pin Contact 0,5-0,75 MM² [18- 20awg] p/n 5-963716-1 (without cable) ~$0.24 ea

Only other thing that you would need is some 20awg hookup wire in whichever length you require..

So you have the wire harness picture, I copied the location from the first page.
