Only when I tried to activate the heater, I realised that I needed a new Steering Column Switch Cluster. So, and because I have factory bixenon and camera (KAFAS2 IIRC) I took the chance to order one with the button for the HBA. For me it will be part number 61 31 9 351 154.

Because I only took the airbag off once, I know that it can be a real pain for someone like me, with no experience, to do it again. Since the car is up for an oil change very soon, I asked my usual mechanic ("BMW expert" - 10 people shop that only works with BMW's kind of business) how much would it cost me for him to install it.
He quoted me 583.49 Euros for the part and 45 Euros for a software update.

My question is this:
I said to him that the coding is of no problem and I can do it myself. However, he said that the software update is not the "coding part", and it needs to be done everytime you change a part like that one.
Is that true? Or will I be ok by, at worst case scenario, just buying the part, installing it myself, and coding it in?

Thank you.
You don't need to code anything when installing the steering column switch. I changed mine (when doing the HBA) and didn't have to code anything.

Also, removing the airbag is pretty easy if you do it the way below...

https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1434617

Watch the video in that thread. So pretty much, all you need to do is remove the plastic clam shell (the two half covers that covers behind the steering wheel), turn the steering so that the top 12 o'clock faces 9o'clock. if you look behind it, you should be able to see the metal tabs that hold the airbag in place. What I did was took two small screw drivers and lifted that metal tab and wedged it, and repeat for the other side. Not sure if I explained well, but if you try, you should be able to see.

Once the airbag is out, you need to remove the single nut (13mm I believe) that holds the steering wheel in place. unclip all the harnesses and pull the steering wheel. The steering column switch is held by 4 bolts. remove the bolt and pull the column switch.

One thing not mentioned in this tutorial is (not sure if its needed or not but I did it), is to count the rotation from the old steering column switch and match it to the new one. So if on the old one, if I can spin the slip ring 5 times clock wise, i would do the same on the new one. There is a plastic button you have to press to release the lock sometimes.

I'd say give it a try before having a shot do it. Its really easy. If you need any additional help, let me know!

Oh man, thank you very much for your help!
I guess I'll have a busy weekend ahead

On a sort of unrelated matter:
I'm looking at a pair of headlights with adaptive bixenon. I have normal bixenon. Do you know if, besides coding, I also have to buy and install different command modules, or will my original ones be capable of managing the adaptive function?

Thank you very much

So the only thing that would have a dependency is the drivers control module. Just did a quick search on etkbmw.com and different part number comes up for adaptive xenon headlights and xenon headlights. This tells me you may need the correct drivers control module for the adaptive part of the headlights to work.

If you already have the module for your non-adative headlights, you can try them and if the adaptive doesn't work, you can always buy them afterwards and swap them out.

#5 on the list...

Thanks jkwhar.

Yeah, I forgot to do the very first thing and check the part numbers... The modules for my F31 also have different part numbers, adaptive vs non adaptive. Same price though..
Will follow your advice and see if my non adaptive modules handle the movements.

Hi, trying to do this.

So I've fitted the new stalks and added 5AC to my FA.

I already have the FLA camera as I have road sign detection. Also have Euro lights as I'm in the UK.

Anything else I need to do?

Thanks

If you have SLI (Speed limit info), than you have the Kafas and not FLA.

Only way to find out if it works is to take it for a test drive!

Hmm, so my 2015 F36 was fully optioned only missing HBA. Has collision, lane departure, HUD...etc.

It would seem all I need is the new column stalk and coding to activate that feature?

Just ordered the parts to do my M4!! Do you think I'll be able to do the required coding using the Bimmercode app in expert mode? I don't have esys or anything like that handy.
I may be able to find someone who can help me remotely though maybe.

Hello.
I have 2016 F10 without HBA button on leaf column and In FA also do not have 522/548/552 Xenon Light. But the car has a Xenon Light lamp according to the factory.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tM4...ew?usp=sharing

I plan to equip HBA. I have Mirror purchased on ebay.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zpq...ew?usp=sharing

I plan to equip the HBA separately and do not replace the whole cluster as I see there are 3 wires (Yellow-Red-Orange) in order and plug socket identical. Does it work when the steering column is installed?

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eXY...ew?usp=sharing
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Ujz...ew?usp=sharing

Or I was wrong and needed to buy the steering column.

Thank you very much.

You would need to code the car to enable HBA. If theres a spot that you can plug in the 3 wires for the stalker, it may work but I've never looked into it.

I'm not lucky or do I lack something?
Note: Currently I do not install the most HBA button on the steering cluster
This wiring diagram is partly because I make one part I get from (https://www.newtis.info). I make it my own car and I'm not responsible for it being compatible with other cars.
1. / loop wiring diagram
Mirror according to vehicle (factory) A60 has 3 wires like New Mirror position (Pin 3-6-10)
The new mirror has 6 positions, 3 of which are similar to the old Mirror. I searched on the newtis web. I speculated that position 4-5 was for K-Can2. But do not see foot position 9
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...stant/IzAprhcL

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Elw...ew?usp=sharing

2. / Ignore foot position 9. I loop the wiring diagram for K-Can2 for position 4-5 that my car does not have, K-can2 is taken from the ECU Junction box

https://drive.google.com/file/d/10-s...ew?usp=sharing

3. / Programming FLA
Connecting the car to the open PC E-sys I saw ECU FLA3 (5f) but did not see the cafd
I did not write 5AC to my FA car, but I have my own FA which has 5AC (correct Vin my car) and activated. Read (VCM). Select ECU FLA3 >> Detect CAF for SWE >> select the latest one >> OK >> Code work successfully. I had CAFD for FLA3

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1trT...ew?usp=sharing

I do not VO coding but I Edit FDL because NBTevo page with errors with Vo coding can only Edit FDL.

- ECU NBTevo
HIGH_BEAM_ASSISTANT >>> aktiv
But it doesn't work with my NBTevo. I aktiv but NBTevo Menu does not see any place to select High-beam assistant (Entrynav, there is High-beam assistant menu).

- ECU FRM
FLA_VERBAUT = aktiv
FLA_AUTO_AKTIV = automatisch

- ECU KOMBI L6 BO
ST_MAB_ASST_APPL = aktiv
ST_MAB_ASST_TIMEOUT = aktiv

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HfX...ew?usp=sharing

The results are all successful and the HBA icon appears in the watch (6WA). But when the vehicle was turned off and the car started again, it did not appear again.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/15hL...ew?usp=sharing

I have switched in the Auto-Off -Auto light switch that does not show up. I ran a test of a 60km / h section without appearing
Where do I miss, or where is it wrong?

Just got this retrofit working on my M4 today. Many thanks!
A few observations I found while testing..
Firstly, the headlamp switch needs to be in auto. Then, when it’s dark enough for dipped headlamps, pressing the stalk button will activate the system and the green headlamp icon will appear in the cluster.
Next, it only works when it’s dark. Quite dark! I had to wait until it was quite late to test.
Lastly, it’s minimum speed to work is set at 60kph/37mph. I coded this down to 25mph and it works much better.
It will also automatically dip in areas where there are street lamps.
So, to test it... it’s needs to be dark. There needs to be no cars or streetlights. You need to be going over 37mph. (Unless coded lower as I did).

When all those conditions are met, it’s amazing. So glad I fitted it!
And now I know I have the FLA camera setup and working, I can start looking out for adaptive led headlamps!

Thank you for your guidance
let me ask little
Your car is a Bixenon or Led light and FA you have 522, 524 or 552
I ask you because of the FA I don't have 522 or 552 but have 5A1 (fog lights). Although in fact, I have a Bixenon light and fog lights, It is equipped from the Factory when I buy a car
So If I Code VO FRM, will my Bixenon lamp work?

I have a UK spec M4, so I have the bi xenon headlamps as standard, and no foglights.

I don't know too much about the coding I'm afraid, as I got someone to do it for me.

I am not lucky
I am in Vietnam so BMW cars are only imported from Germany. Buying a car is a lot of money because of exchange rate differences and taxes. So many functions are dropped to reduce car prices.
On the other hand, these equipment are very few in Vietnam. So we have very few places to do things but I am doing, including Vietnamese BMW also does not work retrofit.
Not so that I do not give up hope so I go to the forums to learn. I also hope that someone will help me.

Welcome everyone. Update is how to activate HBA for F10 LCI 2016 with the switch off switch(Without buttun HBA). Thanks for the NCD TokenMaster comparison tool
Who can help me?
I Have Coding VO FRM, FLA3 after adding 5AC.
Conclude.
Only works very well after Coding times. It turns itself off when the engine turns on the next time, I also switch the A-Off - A light switch, it doesn't work again.
Note: I choose FDL FRM, do not edit the code (FDL after having 5AC), and HBA works again,
I decided to run the test to see if it worked. As a result, it works very well, turns itself on and off high beams according to traffic, but when it stops and starts again, it disappears.
I have read somewhere on forums of HBA activation commands
1. / FRM >> FLA_VERBAUT = aktiv
2. / FRM >> FLA_AUTO_AKTIV = automatisch
3. / KAFAS2 >> 3050 >> FLA_ON_OFF = aktiv
But I equipped the mirror in FLA3 so I couldn't find it
KAFAS2 >> 3050 >> FLA_ON_OFF = aktiv, and I also rummaged in FLA3 nor did FLA_ON_OFF or it changed to another code?
I also searched in FRM the following code
a. / 3000 FRM_VERBAU_U_ALLGEMEIN, 20
LIN_PUBU_TLC
nicht_aktiv (not active) = 00

Comment = BEFAS: Auswertung des Tasters TLC (Time To Line Crossing / Fahrspruverlassenswarnung) am Bedienteil Fahrerassistenzfunktionen

b / / 3050 FRM_AUSSENLICHT_PARAMETER, 30
FLA_TASTER_LIN
ueber_can = 00
Comment = 0 - FLA Taster Information wird über CAN-Bus eingelesen: SZL ---> FRM
1 - FLA Taster Information wird über LIN-Bus eingelesen: BEL -> FRM "
OPTIONS
ueber_can = 00
ueber_lin = 01
c. / FLA_BEL_POS
stufe_A = 01
Comment = 0: FLA will be activated if BEL is in POSITION AUTO or MANUAL LOW BEAM;
1: FLA will be activated if BEL is in POSITION AUTO
Blendfrei nur in A, da auch nur hier die AHL funktioniert
OPTIONS
stufe_A_und_II = 00
stufe_A = 01
But I'm not sure these commands can automatically HBA.
Does anyone know please show me
Thank you very much

I replaced it myself and HBA did not work.
I replaced only the HBA button because I found it the same (same pin out, same position, same color wire). Attached image
How to remove 2 SZL protective covers is relatively easy.

Bottom

Replace only the circuit and the same button.

I have FA added 5AC and changed Zeitkriterium = 0317 (Zeitkriterium = 0317 I have because of NBT EVO retrofitted), I do not write FA to the car, only activate FA and I make VO FRM, KOMBI, DSC, JBBF, FLA3, SZL
After VO, FDL FRM FLA_AUTO_AKTIV = automatisch
Unfortunate results, HBA also only works after the code.
Turn off the vehicle and open the car again. HBA is not working. The buttons HBA and BC are the same, both HBA and BC have the same BC function as before.
Do I need to change the Zeitkriterium the other day? Because of the label on the mirror FLA 01/5/17.

Or 2016 F10 LCI cannot activate HBA without HBA button on the steering wheel.

I ran out of ideas for Jobs
SO
I also buy ebay Cluster SZL and am waiting for shipping

Let me ask more, If I replace SZL, I only inject CAFD and VO code, it works. Or need to use Ista + to adjust the steering angle sensor.
Because I'm afraid Ista + is a software I'm not good at.

I recorded the work that did not succeed for HBA
1./Install the mirror with ECU FLA (connect 2 K-Can2 wires) into the K-Can2 JBBF common because my car does not have K-Can2 on the roof.
2. / Change FA (FA5AC) add 5AC without Save and vehicle, click FA5AC when programming.
3. / Detect CAF SWE for ECU FLA3 and VO Code FLA3, FRM, KOMBI, JBBF, ICM, DSC2.
4./Edit FDL FRM (FLA_AUTO_AKTIV = automatisch).
5./Logo HBA appears on KOMBI when switching off the Auto-Off-Auto light (Currently not changing the SZL Cluster with HBA button).
6. / Test car on dark roads, HBA works great.
7./The car engine and I turned on the car again the HBA did not work even though I switched the Auto-Off-Auto light switch.
8./Return E-sys check FRM FLA_AUTO_AKTIV = automatisch is normal, I do not change anything FRM and select Code FDL FRM. At this time the HBA works again when switching the Auto-Off-Auto switch. But the switch to open the car again HBA does not work even if I switch the Auto-Off-Auto light switch.
9./I think the F10 LCI 2016 BMW function HBA auto switch, which must have the HBA button on the SZL Cluster.
10./ I replaced another SZL cluster with HBA button.
11./ Enable FA5AC, Detect CAF SWE for ECU SZL_LWS, select the latest >>> Code
12./ It all works exactly what the SZL Cluster has an HBA button
Press the HBA button = On / Off, but switch the car and open the car again, the HBA button has no effect.
13./ Checking FRM and FLA3 VO Code FRM, FLA3 with FA5AC, the HBA button works. But the switch back to the HBA does not work even if I switch the Auto-Off-Auto light switch and press the HBA button on SZL with no effect.
14./ I have tried Code FDL FRM (without changing any parameters in ECU FRM), the HBA button works. But the switch back to the HBA does not work even if I switch the Auto-Off-Auto light switch and press the HBA button on SZL with no effect. thinking
Currently I run out of ideas for Retrofit HBA fail
I have attached FA5AC File

Hi guys,

Hoping someone can help with a little issue I'm having with this retrofit. I have fitted a new rearview mirror with FLA camera and steering column stalks with HBA button and have also done the wiring.

The issue I'm having is after updating/coding the FA to include options 5AC and 5AP (as i just have the standard Xenon headlights),the FLA module is not showing up in the SVT list. I also now have a 'camera based system malfunction' for the high beam assist camera. Any help/advice would be amazing, as after a lot of research I still can't seem to work it out

Just for reference I have a BMW F22 M235i.
