tboooe's All Show No Go build..'15 F36 428i GC...last mod 11/15/15

UPDATED 11/15/15

After more than I decade away I am back to BMW, this time with a 2015 Alpine White 428i Gran Coupe. My last BMW was a 1998 E36 M3 which I loved but grad school forced me to sell it. My most recent car was an Audi S5 convertible but some "domestic" changes forced to me get a daily driver that was more practical. For me, the Gran Coupe is exactly what I was looking for.

As with all my cars, I strive for an OEM+ look so I keep my mods fairly conservative and mainly focused on appearance and suspension. I don't drive my cars all that hard most of time so I may not do anything to the engine. For me, mainly because of my motorcycle racing background, I find more excitement and fulfillment out of getting the most out of the handling and being able to take corners and curves quickly.

Here is the list of mods I've done and what I have planned (click date for more info):

ENET cable for custom coding (received 12/30/14)
Tint, Llumar 40% (12/31/14)
M Performance pedals (01/02/15)
Black glossy M4 front grille from JB SPeed (01/03/15)
Lamin-X protective film for door cups and headlights (01/12/15)
19" 442M wheels (I would love 20" but just not practical in a daily driver) (01/15/15)
LEDs for rear turn signal, outer brake light from Horizon LED (02/05/15)
Dual exhaust conversion (02/10/15)
Painted front reflectors (02/14/15)
LEDs for front turn signal from Weisslicht (02/21/15)
LEDs for reverse lights from ebay (03/16/15)
Backup camera night time viewing fix (03/24/15)
M4 side sills (04/18/15)
Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 Tires (10/15/15)
KW V1 coilovers (10/15/15)
BMS spacers, 12/20mm front/rear (10/24/15)
Door lock pin rattling fix (10/30/15)
BMS spacer, swapped 12mm front for 15mm (11/06/15)
Glove box USB retrofit (11/14/15)
LCI AC/Radio trim upgrade (11/14/15)
Replica M Performance Rear Diffuser (11/15/15)
M Performance front spoiler/splitter
ECU Flash Tune (GSR? Evo?)
Custom flat bottom steering wheel?

Anyway, here is my totally stock GC.

The current state of my car updated 10/17/15

Got my ENET cable..custom coding time

I am used to coding from my Audi days but coding the BMW is definitely a little more difficult but thanks to the this great forum and some very helpful folks I was able learn how to code pretty quickly.

Here is the first coding mod I did:
Turning off the front turn signals at night.

Before with turn signals on with headlights:

After with turn signals off:

Tell me about it! I want to get some 19's but wont want to do it until I also lower the car because I dont want the 4x4 look! Unfortunately there are no coilovers available for the F36 yet. I am hoping Bilstein comes out with something soon.

I normally wait to tune my car until after I am done with all the cosmetic mods. This gives me time to get used to the car and how it drives.

Agreed! If I can pick up a set for a good price I will get them, otherwise aftermarket it is.

Thank you! Yes, Dinan tune for sure! I plan to do it after I get the MPE installed! Waiting for you to do it first! . In all seriousness, once Xmas funds clear up I will pull the trigger.

Congrats! This is the first thing i did as well. I coded so many things on my cars along with the Video playback for my kids so they can watch on the road.

Happy to see no fog lights!

Video in motion is next on my list!

I wish I got the M Sport brakes! Now to add them I will have to pay around $2K!

BTW, my family went to Oahu a few years back. What a lovely place to live.

Coding Session #2

Since its raining here in Socal and we all run for shelter I decided to do some more coding. Tonight I did the following:

Removed iDrive disclaimer
Removed PDC and camera disclaimer
Enabled door auto unlock when ignition is turned off

This coding stuff is definitely getting easier and easier.

I'll get around to it soon I hope! My diffuser is being painted atm. My dinan tune will prob come after my funemployment ends I also want to do the brake upgrades but thats even more $$. Going to be a long time before mods are complete. I have a similar build to yours.

As for coding, see if you can learn the ones to:
-turn on the brake force flashing
-turn on door lights when in reverse
-one touch rolling up windows when door is open

Those are probably the most useful/coolest features I wish the car already had and would probably get it coded eventually

Do you have any pics from the front of the car showing both headlights?

I need to pick up a cheap laptop so I can start trying to figure out how to do some coding on my car.

I can do those features now. I will get around to it during my next coding session.

I do not have pic showing both. When I tried to take a pic the glare of the headlights just totally made it impossible to see anything, even the yellow turn signals. The only way I could take a pic was from the side, so that the camera was not directly in front of the headlights.

What is it that you want to see?

Great looking car, in for pics as you mod it!

Curious, why Dinan and not BMS?
