Just took my car in for a inspection today and learned my rear shocks are leaking at 40k. Anyone else had theirs fail? 2015 428

That is not out of the ordinary. Replace them yourself, it's a VERY VERY easy DIY. Buy from FCP euro and you'll get lifetime warranty so when they leak again you can get free replacements (would only need to pay shipping)

Depending on driving conditions, dampers can fail anytime. It's not uncommon at all to fail at 40k miles.

They might say they'll cover part of the cost and quote you a cost that is still more than what most independent shops would charge. I'd still get a quote from an independent shop unless they really do replace them for you for free or for some ridiculously low number.

If you have any experience working on cars, replacing the rear shocks are super easy. You don't have to compress anything and the bolts are easily accessible from the wheel well.

Dealer has agreed to cover 90%. But they said I will need alignment ? Does this sound correct?

Yep you'll need an alignment. Probably doesn't have to be done at the dealership if there's another shop you'd prefer nearby.
