German diesel changes: Is the F30 330d EURO5 or EURO6 and what can be done about it?

Hi guys,

maybe some native Germans can help me out as I'm getting conflicting information on the topic. For those who don't know, there's a debate right now in Germany to prohibit diesels below EURO6 emissions category from driving in cities. Right now the used car market in Germany seems to be quite paralyzed as I can tell you, NOBODY is interested in buying my super well kept and nicely priced 330d. There's no callers whatsoever.

Anyway, based on these two links, it seems that the 2013 F30 330d fulfills actually the EURO6 requirement, but the car papers state it is EURO5:

What I would like to know is, can the car papers be updated to show the car is EURO6 and what are the steps to do this?

A German colleague of mine with the same problem for his 320d called the BMW dealer and they told him it can't be done. Can this really be the case? I hope they told him wrong and that there is a way if the car is already EURO6 anyway.

Btw, interestingly, when advertising the car on autoscout24.de and mobile.de, one of the 2 lists the model/year/engine as being EURO6, the other as EURO5.

Much appreciate any hints on what to do.

Hi
My 2014 330d was definitely Eu5. It was manufactured in Nov 2014. I think Eu6 330d engines only started being produced sometime in early 2015
I did enquire about whether the engine could be made Eu6 compliant and BMW said that it was not possible
I've sold it now anyway
I think the only way to future proof a diesel purchase - if that's possible - is to get a Eu6 compliant engine which uses AdBlue. There are some Eu6 diesels which don't and I've read that those ones are likely to fail on NoX emissions in real world tests

Thanks for the reply. The thing which is interesting is this part of the focus.de article:
Zwei Motoren des Vorgänger-BMW 3er erfüllten bereits 2013/2014 die Euro-6-Norm:
  • 320d (163 PS)
  • 330d (258 PS)
If we assume that is correct, what would be the way to get the EURO5 changed into EURO6 in the car's papers?

Whatever the paperwork does or doesn't say, i am pretty certain that 330d's manufactured in 2013/14 were Eu5 and not Eu6 compliant - certainly those manufactured in 2013 anyway
