Carplay + Map update + Firmware Update

Hi All,

I'm a bit lost at the moment and trying to understand how exactly fsc codes will work.

My car is current a factory NBTevo_I which means car play activation is possible.

Ideally I would like to

1) upgrade the firmware to a later firmware, so that it will support full screen car play
2) enable car play
3) update to latest maps

step 2 will change the FSC codes on my car I would assume? Would using another set of FSC codes to update to latest maps remove carplay?

The FSC to update to the latest maps has nothing to do with the FSC for CarPlay.

Assuming that you're using a third party provider to activate Apple CarPlay, being able to update the maps would depend on whether or not you were issued you a lifetime code for maps on the same FSC set.

If that is the case, you should be able to just update the maps without the FSC file and this would not affect CarPlay.

Hi Tony, not yet.

I'm just waiting for my car to go in for a service next month first.

If the dealership decides to update the software on the headunit, then these eBay patches could cause it to brick the idrive. £1500 to repair.

there is a chap on here called wibbles who knows what needs to be done, so will likely drop him a PM

I bought an update from ebay and it failed on my car.

Make sure whatever features they are trying to activate on your car works on your car and region. In my case, they tried to activate RTTI which is a subscription only service in my area... that caused my nav to constantly reboot and pretty much make it unusable.

steve@codemybimmer was able to fix it by re-flashing the whole firmware for the NBTEvo.

Not saying the ebay route will not work, but be aware that it has the possibility of failure and cause problems.
