Advice on new steering wheel

Done with the exterior so moving onto the interior, starting with the steering wheel.
There are lots of options on ebay, but with prices ranging from £220 - £600 I guess you get what you pay for.
Can't quite decide on the material. I know alcantara feels nice, but doesn't it look out of place in the cabin?
I don't have any carbon inside, but leaning towards a leather/carbon combo. Chunky grip and flat-bottomed.
Anyone swapped out the steering wheel and which one do you recommend?
Cheers

Went with the genuine BM Alcantara one with the red ring at the top, feels nice and matches the M Perf carbon / Alcantara interior bits.

Have a look at Royal and get them to make what you want.

Yes contact Royal Steering Wheels for a retrim is a far cheaper option, you can then choose exactly what you want, I believe they also do a wheel exchange option. They don't often answer the phones so I'm lead to believe so best just to use their website and order form. They have a huge gallery of different BMW wheels on there so you can get an idea of what you want, different colours, materials, stitching colour, etc, etc.

Looks quality! This is exactly what I'm after (except not sure about the stripe):

How much did you guys pay?

All up mine was a couple of hundred quid.

Very good quality and well worth it.

Another vote for Royals from me - I bought a secondhand leather steering wheel (so I could return to stock/OEM later) and got it retrimmed in Alcantara (no stripe) with tricolour M stitching - much nicer looking than leather and the grip is so much better when pushing on (did my paddles with MMR billet replacements at the same time too) - retrim was £180 all in and I paid £80 for the donor wheel

Nice! Did they also fit the carbon trim?

Nah, I had that already on my old wheel so just swapped it over as part of the change to the retrimmed wheel

Couldn't recommend Royals enough, they were great and got the impressions they could do pretty much any style/mod you'd want, although mine was pretty simple (as close to CS style as possible)

I should be getting my new wheel delivered from Royal Steering Wheels tomorrow, I've gone for perforated leather on the sides and smooth leather at the top and bottom, with M stitching (but no stripe). Will post a picture when it's fitted.

Is the regular smooth leather that Royals use better quality than the standard BMW leather?

Within weeks of getting my F31, the leather on the steering wheel felt sort of tacky. It doesn’t matter what I clean it with, it always seems to have a very slightly sticky feel to it. I have read other people reporting the same thing, although it’s not common.

Never had it in any other car.

Absolutely the Royal leather is better!

I had the same issue with the OEM leather.

Here’s mine, Nappa and perforated leather, M stitching, blue racing stripe and I had mine made a touch thicker than standard.

Couldn’t be happier!

looks great! Do you know if the contours of this one is an option or is a different kind of steering wheel? :

This is off their site, http://royalsteeringwheels.com/f20f30/

Just send them pic, can’t imagine them not being able to do it.

My new steering wheel arrived from Royal Steering Wheels today, I'm very happy with the quality of it, it looks (and feels) great and still has a nice amount of heat coming through when the heated wheel is switched on . It took about an hour to remove the old wheel, swap everything over and fit the new wheel.

Browsing this forum is not good for my wallet, yet another thing I didn't know I needed in my life has been discovered.

I've had 2 wheels from RSW. One on my F06 and more recently one for the G30 - great service from Jack and his team. I chose to go to him and let them swap it over.

The hardest thing I found was deciding on which style, stitching colour etc to go for. Options are endless!

another vote here for Royal, had my mk7 GTI wheel done in alcantara and opted for an exchange with my standard wheel and got him to swap them over whilst I waited.

Glad to read that there was someone with a heated wheel on here that had thirs done as that was a concern of mine, thought maybe the heat wouldn't get through an extra layer.

Picked up a delivery miles F80 M3 wheel for £110 and some genuine paddles for £80.

Nice upgrade over the F3x standard setup.
