2014 F30 335i Reliability?

Hey everyone, was thinking to switch from my 2016 528i to a 2014 335i with 35k miles. The 6 cylinder turbo is much quicker than the 4 turbo in the 528. I've read online that the n55 engine is very reliable but besides that what other issues or things should I replace now to avoid future issues. (Cosmetics and other parts) If there's too many things that can go wrong I'm thinking on getting the extended warranty. Thoughts?

Coolant hose which runs from expansion tank. Chargepipe, & getting ready for gaskets wouldn't be a terrible idea, if you have warranty all you'll need to worry about is the Coolant hose which isn't covered for some dumb reason. Chargepipe is more of a peace of mind mod to avoid you getting stranded. Besides that maintenance will deliver that reliability that the N55 is known for

Electric water pump, valve cover gasket, and oil filter housing gaskets are the likeliest issues you'll see. None of these things need to be done proactively though. Just get a good flashlight and inspect all around the engine block for any leaks. If you see any leaks on the oil pan or rear main seal, I'd look for a different car. It's not impossible to do, just a little pricey. However, an oil filter housing gasket leak can look like an oil pan leak.

If you're not tuned, you'll likely not see a blown charge pipe and it's probably not worth doing proactively. Not sure coolant hose issues are all that common. you'll just want to inspect them for pliabilty and cracking.

If you're getting an automatic, make sure to do the transmission fluid change (not flush) and pan/filter change at 60k miles. If you plan on keeping your car a while you'll thank me later. Don't do it earlier though, that's a good proactive service interval). You should consider the diff fluid as well.

I dont' think extended warranties are worth it.

The hose that runs from the expansion tank is extremely prone to breaking & will break and dump coolant everywhere. There's a thread with several pages. Mine broke at 45k miles, not too far from OPS mileage + it's a 2015. Js it is a major issue and only costs like 40$ from dealer and a quick 2 min switch.

I was original owner on a SA (South African) late model build (June 2014) RWD 2014 335i MPPK / MPE & Dinan Intake with 62K trouble free miles (before it was totaled, no one hurt). Had a vibration noise that was fixed with a weight on A/C hose in 2015 (this was recall). The rear differential weight was replaced at 60K. Literally, nothing else other than following BMW maintenance and wear parts.

2013 335i approaching 49k miles. Just bought the car at 40k but the previous owner never had any major repairs or recalls. I had the LPFP addressed but other than that, nothing else. I did get a shadow code for AUX fan, seemed to be common on the early model F30s, but I replaced the fan relay and have not seen the code come back. Hoping it stays that way because that's a $700 fan!

Might as well get an extra hose and leave it in the trunk just in case.

Yup. I changed mine proactively last year at around 40k. I gave the original a light wiggle before removing to see what kind of shape it was in, and it immediately broke.

$40 and 5 minutes is a no-brainer for proactive replacement.

I recommend replacing charge pipe with aftermarket one made by Evolution Racewerks. Very inexpensive insurance.
