Thanks!
did you code the battery?

5/27/2024 - UPDATE!

Issues with communication to DSC and ICM have been resolved, much thanks to forum member Siki78

Pulled the center console to inspect the ICM. It was corroded beyond belief due to the flood it was in.
So I ordered a replacement ICM off fleabay and installed it this past Saturday. I knew it needed to be coded to the vehicle, but figured ISTA would still see it and communicate with it after plugging in the replacement ICM.
I was wrong LOL.
After replacement, I was still getting ISTA errors complaining that it couldn't communicate with the DSC or ICM. Looking at the Flexray path, it leaves the gateway, then runs to the ICM first, then down to the DSC module, then loops back up from DSC to ICM to gateway to close out the loop.
So I posted a thread asking for assistance on troubleshooting/coding and Siki78 was nice enough to remote in to my laptop.
I'm no expert, but I think what he did was open blocked flexray ports, code the ICM to the vehicle in E-sys, then use ISTA to initialize the flexray.
After that, both the ICM and DSC units showed up as communicating in the ISTA control unit tree!

So after scanning the car again in ISTA, we've gone down from 85 errors to 28 errors! WOOHOO!
Majority of the errors left are surrounding the ECALL, Headlights, ASD, Sound Amp and Camera, because those modules are removed from the car for right now.

Things left to do:
- Run the test plan to initialize the ICM ride height, etc
- Get my new headlights coded to vehicle. I'm switching from my non-adaptive LCI LEDs to IKON "laser" style.
- Waiting on body kit to arrive so I can send that off to paint.
- Install upgraded heat exchanger
- Install new downpipe and turbo back exhaust
- Replace mechanical water pump, tensioner and serpentine belt
- Replace spark plugs
- MHD tune, XHP tune
- Install body kit when it comes back from paint.
And then, if there is enough money left in the budget, I'm eyeing either a Pure 850, Remnant 65 Omega or DAW turbo (model undecided yet).

I can see light at the end of the tunnel! Just barely!

6/2/24 update.
Body kit sent off to paint yesterday. Shop will provide me a quote sometime this coming week.

Replaced the water pump, tensioner and serpentine belt today. Found that the AC compressor clutch pulley was making a good amount of noise, so replacing the entire AC compressor.

I've got the engine radiator and heat exchanger out of the car, so taking this opportunity to upgrade the heat exchanger. Going with the CSF thick boy unit.

Happy to report that after replacing the ICM and coding it to the vehicle, there are no more warning lights on the dash!
I'm moving a step closer to light at the end of the tunnel.
Hope to have another update on the car in the next 1-2 weeks.

Man, you're throwing all kinds of $$ at this project car! At some point it would have been cheaper to buy a running one, but seems you're enjoying the "restoration". Keep up the updates, and pics too..

Thank you brother!
You would be surprised. I'm coming in at less than $20K all in and that will include the upgraded turbo that I intend to run.
Very few folks can sniff out the online sales and deals like me!

Probably
But to be fair I travel a lot, so I'm basically 3 months home, 3 months away, repeat. It's been that way since I first bought the car.
If I didn't travel, it probably would have been finished last spring/summer.
That's also why the updates were so sporadic until recently.

Nah, I've been loving it!
I could have sold you my 440i if you were truly looking for a project

What do you do for work that allows you to travel so often?

I manage a support desk for a health care solutions company.
I manage our SOX audit, Change Management, Problem Management, Incident Management. I am also the TAM for our outsourcer relations as well. I'm also the sitting Change Manager for our CAB meetings as well.
Not trying to impress. Rather, fishing for sympathy as I'm over worked and arguably underpaid LOL.
I've been working remote since 2018, so thankfully I was not overtly affected when the country was shut down due to the plandemic.
Everything was BAU until they shut down my gyms and favorite restuarants.
That's when I acquired my own Wilson and 440i.
I should have known better.... LOL

I'm intrigued! I love the idea of working remote, albeit with potential travel. That is what I am striving for in the long-run career wise in my prospective field... How did you even end up in this role?

Can't wait to see the finished product. One things for sure the car will truly be yours, you can't buy an experience like the one you're building.

Thanks bud!
I've had a fair share of people who told me to sell it, move on, abandon ship, etc.
I refuse to give up on anything until I've completely exhausted every single effort.

In hindsight, I probably should have named this thread "I can save her....but send help!"
I also feel like I've almost completely reverse engineered an F32, so I got that going for me....

From 2007-2018 I was a site IT manager for a company that had 3 locations in the Charlotte NC and surrounding areas.
The company was acquired 3 times during my tenure there. I survived 2 of the acquisitions. On the third, I migrated the site's desktops, data centers, telcom and other infrastructure and was with them for about 6 months before they laid me off.
Then in 2018 I was picked up by another company that was in the same business, but they hired me on as an ITSD manager that was a 100% remote position. I was on-site for about 90 days for "training" and then went remote after that. Since then I occasionally travel to offices to help maintain on-site tech and assist with on-site projections (upgrades, new installs, etc).
We have offices in TX, NC, FL, WV, MA, NJ and Lima Peru.

That's old school sweat equity and not everyone is wired that way.

In 1984 I was working at a shipyard doing bottom jobs and living on a 25 ft sailboat. One day a 42 foot tricabin was towed in that caught fire in transit from Mexico. I made an offer third of the asking price which they accepted and I took to rebuilding it. When I was done I lived on it another 25 years and there was not one issue I couldn't solve. That piece of mind you can't buy you have to earn it.

Quick update:
1) Hood, front bumper, rear bumper are back from paint. Can't install them just yet. Still waiting on side skirts, mirror caps and front fenders to come back from paint. The issue has been the heat here in NC. Most body shops cannot paint when temps are above 90* and it has been hovering between 90-96* for weeks now. So I'm at the mercy of the mother nature.
2) My 19" wheels arrived. I wrapped them in Falken Azenis FK510s. 245/40/19 front, 275/35/19 rear. Here's a little sneak peak until the car is whole.

3) Exhaust and downpipe arrived today. Here's a little sneak peak of the exhaust.

4) Installed charge pipe, intake and CSF heat exchanger a few weeks back.
5) Really wanted to get the car on a Pure 850, DAW Ultraflow or Remnant O65 turbo for this summer but I'm running out of time to enjoy the car, so I'm putting that off until the spring time to minimize downtime with install, tuning, etc. For now the car will just be intake, catless dp, full exhaust, CSF heat exchanger, B58TU fuel pump, MHD Stage 2+ and XHP trans flash. Really hoping it will be a good bit faster than my MHD Stage 2+ N54 135i.

Hoping to have the car completed here in the next few weeks and once the car is whole and presentable, I'll probably start a new thread so as not to muddy this one up, but will drop link to the new thread in this thread so anyone visiting this one can follow the chronological order.
Cheers!

Time for another update.
Still need to get the catless downpipe and full exhaust on the car. As well as the new rear bumper.
But here she is as of today. Got the front bumper on about 30 mins ago.

Thanks! I did a lot of research on them and it seems they have great summer traction but also decent in rain as well. I would have preferred a stickier summer tire but not many 275/35/19s out there in that category. I can find a million choices in 18" and 20", oddly enough.

So I've been driving on them for about a week now and so far no complaints. Dry traction is great and the tires are quiet. I haven't driven in rain but I don't push the car in the wet so I'm sure they'll be fine. I was hoping to take the car to the local 1/8th mile drag strip this coming Thursday to see how the tires perform on a prepped surface, but it's raining all week so that may not happen.
Just installed the catless downpipe yesterday and flashed the car with MHD stage 2(until my TU fuel pump arrives) and XHP stage 3 trans flash. So far, I can't say I'm super impressed with the power. It feels about the same as my MHD stage 2+ 135i.

When you do, let me know how it goes. Super curious how they perform.

I think once you get the TU pump and mix in some E, is where it'll start shining.

I'm still on the mppsk tune lol. Waiting for Black Friday making the switch. I thought about taking it off the X5 but got vetoed by my wife. 🤣
