I would find an indy that specializes in BMW that can code it for a reasonable price. You could also just get general coding software to do other things and it would be a one time expense that you can use again in the future to code things like folding mirrors, etc.

Registering battery is only a reset flag to ICM unit that charges the battery that tells it that new battery has been installed. It is trivial to do so using ISTA-D. It is under Service Function/Body/Voltage. BMW uses only 70/80/90Ah batteries (both AGM and regular) for F30, i.e. these are only possible values in firmware. Switching from one to another capacity can be done with ESYS or ISTA-P. If capacity is not changed much i.e. most of replacement batteries are 95Ah for example, it is totally safe to register them as the same 90Ah battery as originally. |

It was something the developer was working on - don't know if it's available yet.

E-Sys won't do battery registration, so e-sys based apps wouldn't have that ability unless they incorporated some type of work around, which apparently Carly has. Better diagnostic tools like the Foxwell NT510 can register batteries, and if your car is old enough to need a battery you should have one to diagnose other problems anyway. For the price that a BMW dealer wants for a battery you can buy a battery and a Foxwell.

I've only heard good things about Foxwell 150. There are a couple of threads on the forum here that have discussed this. I'm going to get one this week as a matter of fact. Handy tool.

Hopped in my car the other day after being gone a few days and it immediately started throwing up all sorts of warnings(air bags, transmission, hood open, CEL) and speedo/tach weren't even working.... shut it off and restarted car, still had CEL and other warning lights
Drove it to BMW right away as it was still under warranty (2015 with 20k miles) Of course when the service guy went to get some basic info from the car the CEL was gone and everything was working fine... he said it was most likely the battery and that even though the battery was not covered under my CPO warranty (huh?) he said he could probably get BMW to goodwill the battery since it had such low miles. Luckily they hooked me up with a loaner car and took care of me and installed a new battery.... Picked it up the next day and she parked it by the frost black i8 Last edited by SoCal_NSX; 03-11-2019 at 10:32 PM.. |

This opens up the diagnostic tool side of BimmerCode. A lot you can do and see including Battery Registration. Same developer. |
