Question about 3/4-40i MPG. What's yours?

Didn't get a response on the 1 forum.
Considering downsizing to a 140i or 240i.

What's your average MPG?
Mostly city or highway driving?
Spirited? Sedate?
Mode you use the most e.g. comfort

Thanks

It's not all that helpful. Some members don't add information on city/highway. We never know the driving style... there is also an anomaly of someone claiming 600+ miles on a tank. Call me skeptical but I would say that's impossible on a 40i.

Average MPG over 15,000 miles: 17.5mpg
very rare motorway/DC usage, mostly back roads
extremely sedate
TC off which overrides driving modes (throttle is put into comfort, steering feels like Sport+)

31.6mpg over 20.5K. I try not to use the car around town, so it's mainly motorway and A roads, with a twice-yearly Autobahn blast thrown in because I can.

I had an M140i 5dr auto for 12 months or so, did 22k miles in it and got 32mpg on average. Normal commute to work would see 36-37mpg (mixed driving), hard driving approx 25-30. Long run 42mpg.

All with aircon on, comfort mode, MPSS tyres. M Performance exhaust, not tuned.

Good car overall, but limited by traction and handling ability. Ended up being quite frustrating in anything other than dry conditions. Just couldn't put the power down well enough so decided my next car had to be 4wd of some sort. I think i'm past my tail happy action!

Garage List
2017 BMW 440i Coupe  [0.00]
2006 BMW 330i  [0.00]
2007 BMW 335i  [0.00]
2016 BMW M3  [0.00]
I average about 7.5-8.0 L/100KM (~ 32 MPG) with a pretty even split of highway & city driving on my 440i MPPSK. Honestly, I'm usually always in sport plus & not afraid to punch it, so I have always been more than happy with that consumption (my N54 335i gets about 10.5 L/100KM driving the same way )

Keep it in Eco more often, & I'm sure you could get it closer to the 40 MPG some other fellows were getting.

In my opinion the B58 has the perfect split personality to allow for sedate/economical city driving but also to go like a bat out of hell in the twisties.

Mid / late 20's around town, late 30's on a decent motorway run, 40 plus on the same run driving sedately. Lob in traffic / congestion and it all goes to rats and could be anything.

440i currently returning 19.9 mpg in comfort mode at the moment.

3 mile town commute to work , with more time idling to clear the frost than actually driving hence the poor mpg.

Summer town mpg around 28 , motorway can see 52 if uber careful in eco mode.

Winter town mpg is almost identical to my previous 3.0d Merc , but it never returned anywhere near the motorway mpg the BM can achieve.

I used used to get around 35 mpg on a fairly mixed commute. 40mpg being reasonably careful with the odd blast on a long run is achievable.

I can get 31-33mpg on a run to work which is 30 miles, mixture of good B roads and the A1.

Can get 17mpg with everything in Sport on a cross country blat to the gym!

I generally get 375-385 miles from a tank and average 29-31 mpg over a tank.

(This is from a 440i btw with 21k on it now and always use premium fuel)

Commute:

28-30mpg m140, 33-35 335d, 35-38 330d.

Long Run:

38-40mpg m140, 40-45 335d, 45-48 330d.

335d stock was about 5-7mpg (400bhp remap puts it more like 3-5) better in similar situations to the m140 and the 330d about 3-5mpg better than the 335d.

Average 32.2. Probably 65% motorway/dual carriage way. Best tank 38 which was almost all motorway. Worst was 29.48 which was more town driving in traffic etc.

It was about 29.5 after 33,000 miles before some fucker wrote it off. MPPSK made no difference at all after the novelty of scaring people wore off.

26, mix of A roads and back streets, 10 miles so cold for the most part, still running in so low revs at the moment, my M240i and 340i were the same, just over 26 mpg

My commute is about to change from 60 miles of motorway to 12 miles of country roads. All the roads are 40+ mph with two separate three mile stretches of national speed. I am thinking the diesel won't fair well in the DPF department. On a test run the diesel just got up to temperature. Only just. Imagine a cold morning it wouldn't be anywhere near it. I start early as well so there is no traffic when I go in.

The M140i current offers are very tempting as well.

Thanks

Yep similar around 23-26 on most days but the car only gets 7 miles each way in the city on stop start.

On a motorway you can end up with high 30's if you're in eco pro and around 65-70mph and coast down hills and then engage cruise control again.
