I don't believe so. I looked into it for a m235i and genius told me that LSD was removed in Feb due to install time. You can buy it at the dealer.

Sad. I'm actually surprised not more people on the forums have the MPerf LSDs, was trying to figure out if it was because it didn't look like a PIA item.

Simple answer. It's not a cosmetic (visual/auditory) modification and it's expensive.

It transforms the handling on track. Really does.
Not necessarily needed on the street....

How many people with xDrive have gone for an LSD either M-Performance or Quafie? It's probably the next thing I'll spring for and have gotten little feedback from other xDrive owners. Anyone have a review or experience with it.

A friend of mine owns a 435i xdrive and installed the M Performance LSD (I think he was maybe the first, after Bmw did LSD available for xdrive) and he is super-happy with it!!!!
Really really satisfied! Now the handling is more similar to a RWD but with the grat traction of the AWD!

Which gear oil to use?

Documents of Main group 33 from ISTA+ attached.

What type gear oil would the M Performance LSD use compared to the standard open rear differential?

That's great to hear. I've been really curious about this too but haven't been able to find much info yet. It's been hard to even determine with 100% certainty that the f30 m perf lsd is compatible with the xDrive.

BMW told me there is no need to change the oil (or even a way to change it) for this LSD.

You would have to extract it with a vaccuum pump. Or you may be able to open up the rear cover after removing it.

Contact Drexler.

They may suggest something like 4 yrs for occasional (2-3x/yr) track use.

Hint.

• 30% lockup on acceleration, 9% on deceleration, developed specifically for the F2X and F3X chassis for optimal traction and smooth locking and unlocking characteristics.
What's the relationship between lockup % and ramp angles? Do we have an estimate for the ramp angles that are being used in the MP LSD?

The follow-on questions would be what's a streetable lockup %? There seems to be a lot of posts in a variety of forums that say 40% is about the upper limit, but there's less consensus on lockup % during decel/coast.

DIY tools question...

I'm wondering if anyone has done removing/installing the rear diff themselves and can comment on the special tools required for the job.

1. Does the exhaust system need to be removed in order to do swap out the rear diff? It seems like ISTA+ has you remove the complete exhaust system in order to disconnect the main drive shaft.

2. What tool (or alternative tool) did you use to get the left and right axles off? Pictures attached.

Darkiedm4, I was wondering what tool you used in place of 33 5 120 in order to pull out the axles?

I would have to ask my installer.

If you would, that would be great.

I'm just wondering if one or two pry bars would be sufficient.

The BMW 33 5 120 tool set costs about $750-800. Pretty expensive for what is basically a pry bar.
