Im on the verge of booking my first "non work" trip abroad in a decade. (I am booking now but will be travelling a few days before Xmas and will be back just in the nick of time for NYE.)
Have done these destinations before so can recommend them. If all goes to plan, I will be flying first class into Saudi Arabia via British Airways and will be staying in the Fairmont for a few days before being driven to Madina where we will be staying in the Shaza Al Madina hotel for a couple of nights. Then we will collect a rental car (I am trying to book some Italian exotica) in which we will drive across the Arabian Peninsula into Dubai. Staying in the Burj Khalifa for two nights before flying home business class on Emirates. The hardest part of booking this has been trying to persuade the rental company to allow us to drive some exotica through the desert. They are fine for us to take any 4x4 or a S63AMG or a 760LI but are being a bit funny about the exotica due to the potential damage the sand can do to them. I don't get it, a G63AMG is near enough £170k yet they are fine for us to drive this through the desert but would rather we didn't do it in a 488GTB or Huracan. I understand some of my destinations may not appeal to you, but business or First into Dubai and staying somewhere like the Burj would be a very special way to celebrate your anniversary. |

Sorrento, pack in a full week sightseeing or just chill.
Can be as expensive or budget as you like. Highly recommend The Grand President Hotel, can be booked TUI, they'll give you the best table for a night to celebrate anniversary with open views straight across the bay to Vesuvius.

Mykonos Grand in Mykonos is great. You will be well looked after there. Fantastic food, lovely rooms and suites overlooking the Aegean and shuttles to Mykonos town for more nice restaurants and boutique shopping.
Otherwise, Sorrento as the above two gents suggest would be lovely...quite a busy vibe to the town if you like that. We got engaged there and loved it. I'd be giving the ME a swerve for anything romantic though...sorry Andy

Two more that spring to mind for a romantic break...
Parco San Marco near Porlezza on Lake Lugano (Italian lakes). Half hour drive from lake como but much quieter. Half an hour lakeside walk into the charming village of Porlezza at the head of the lake. Ten minute drive in the other direction has you in the Swiss city of Lugano on the same lake. Great for boat hire etc. We went at this time of year and it was great. Le Mirador Kempinski in Vevey on lake Geneva. Hotel in the clouds... spectacular views and spectacularly relaxing. Two hours from Geneva by train and a lovely town.

It's fantastic, the service/hospitality is at another level, because it is so genuine. The team there are like a family and when you return (you will want to), you are treated like an old friend.
Everything else about it is great too, but it's the people that truly elevate it. ETA, if you book direct with them you get transfers included and spa offers etc by email. The spa is excellent too. Damn, I want to be there again!

On a serious note our anniversary falls on 19th sept, bit chilly most places around that time.

19th Sep?? I hope your 25th is 2019 and not in 5 days. Congrats either way.
Anyway I've been about a bit! Santorini is OK but busy now. Mykonos? NO, not unless she is actually a he, or you really are into Lobb's beads. Lake Garda is OK but full of German bikers in September Amalfi coast is a sure winner, Sorrento is very pleasant this time of the year. A bit left field but for me I'd look at Dubrovnik, Split, Ljubljana or Pula. Bootiful, a bit of culcha, a lot of history and good food. There are some amazing boutique hotels on the Adriatic. IMHO AI is a bad thing for romance. There's nothing romantic about a buffet! Better go for fewer nights and push the boat out for her. Vote? |
