Door Lock not opening with two Pulls

Hey

So this has started to happen occasionally. I will try to get out of the car and the door pin won't go up.

Let me know if anyone knows what could be causing this?

Thanks

Door lock actuators. If your car is under warranty, the dealership will cover replacement.

There's definitely other threads on this where people have gotten this fixed under warranty.

+1 to what everyone else said.

I just had this covered under warranty in my 5 series. Of course when I brought it in, it worked for the first time in weeks. They changed the actuator and it's been fine since. A few days later I noticed the memory panel and seat massager on the door wasn't lit and didn't work. Another trip there and they plugged the wire they forgot back in

There's a long thread on this issue:

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...=Lock+actuator

I have a 2016 428i GC and there's a SIB on the lock cable also, not sure if this would include your 428i

It looks like this is becoming more and more common across the model range. The first I heard of this was in a guys X5M that had an electrical fire start and the door pin would not raise. Is the door pin mechanism when you pull the handle 100% manual? If so, how does this happen?

During coldest days of winter, it happened once in my 328. Can it be something affected by the weather or weakened battery?

I also thought when you pull the handle, it somehow manually releases the lock since there is no "electronic" sound. An actuator does this? I know this is the case when we use the center unlock/lock button and comfort access but the handle too? If so, it's awfully quiet.

I'm having this exact problem "fixed" by my dealership. I use that term loosely because it's been there now 3 times for the same thing. Unfortunately, the dealership is stubborn and won't do the right thing...so I keep bringing it back, and now I'm driving a rental car around at their expense...all because they won't replace the $22 bowden cable that is the root cause of this issue.

TSB 51 26 15, dated Sep 1, 2015 describes the problem when the bowden cable malfunctions in cold weather. Rerouting of the cable is recommended.

I think others have mentioned that their dealerships just replaced the cables and all was good.

Not fixed the 3rd time may make you eligible for a lemon law.

Unfortunately, Canada has no real lemon laws like in the States. So my only real course of action is to keep taking it back until I'm satisfied that it has been fixed. Sooner or later they'll get it right - either that or it'll end up costing them way more in the end.

Good thing is I now have the Service Foreman's contact info and he and I get along well.

Does this mean you can't open the door if the battery dies? Seems odd that this wouldn't be a mechanical door handle that triggers the lock pin as it clearly seems to be.

So it is mechanical and not related to the lock actuator. Wouldn't make sense that it would be the actuator otherwise comfort access wouldn't work and you'd be trapped if the actuator or the battery died. Though I guess that would be true if the Bowden cable broke too. Though actually you can escape out of the trunk via the pass through.

It's happened to me a few times as well. I had to press the unlock button near the center of the car for it to actually unlock.

And when it did unlock it made a kind of slower unlock sound...

Took it to the dealers and they said a cable was getting caught or something. Afterwards it still happened once. But it recently it hasn't happened at all so I decided not to take it into dealers for now

My 99 VW Passat had the double pull open, no power locks at all, it's mechanical.

Don't just about all German cars have the double pull?

I don't believe there's any electronics involved in the double pull.

This started happening to my 2014 228i.

If you are able to get out after the double-pull, be careful as the window will not go down.
Happened twice to me where the window slams on the frame when closing the door.

You can also code for all doors to unlock when you shut off the engine.

This happens to me too. I just press the central locking button and it opens. Probably a bad cable design that manually unlocks the door.

They replaced the actuator so let's see if that fixes it

Same. This started happening. Only happens in winter months.

I still don't understand how rerouting a bowden cable has anything to with the cold weather.

Just happened yesterday. Only the passenger door for me.

I am out of warranty although I am going to tackle as DIY.

Also going to replace the drivers side interior door pull as it’s sticky even now with cooler temps on hand in North Texas.
