Xdelete
Just thought I'd write up my impressions of xdelete after a week having it incase any of you are thinking about doing it
So I love my 435d and think the xdrive is great but I did miss being able to drive a bit silly on a quiet country road. I considered getting a 440i or m4 but still wanted a 4wd car for when the weather gets bad. So after some digging I stumbled upon xdelete which let's you turn your xdrive fully RWD and back when ever you want where ever and the process takes around 1 minute. So after installing it last weekend and doing around 500 miles since I can say it works flawlessly switch the car to rwd and youd be amazed at the difference when being a bit silly. The car feels like a true RWD very similar to my e92 m3 and handles beautifully but then once you've got the silliness out the way you can just switch back on Xdrive and continue with your journey. So for anyone else wanting to scratch that RWD itch I'd highly recommend it I'd say it's the best money I've spent on the car. |

How did you install it on the car? Via mobile and cable/wifi?

Looks like you do it via an app.
https://www.xdelete.app/ Costs $149 Interesting if it would cause warranty issues if the dealer could detect its been changed.

This all sounds too good to be true?
Presumably you can get better MPG on a long run as well What happens to all the driver aids if you start being really silly with the loud pedal? I don't want to be negative but surely there's a catch. |

Can't see it would make any difference to the behavior of driver aids. If you leave them on then it will reduce power / brake if it detects wheelspin, if you turn them off then it won't.

E-series guys have had xDelete for years. This might be new for F-series, but it's been out for E-series and tested for a long while.

I was very sceptical myself at first but honestly there doesnt seem to be a down side. If you plant your foot in comfort or sport the traction light goes crazy trying to handle 750nm or torque through the back tyres as it did on my old e92 m3 and 335d sport plus let's a little slide before cutting the power as with the 440i or m4. Traction off fully and the car genuinely is great fun for drifting and sliding about on a quiet road. I was surprised that the steering feel completely changes to feel just like a rwd also. I installed it with the ethernet cable and my mobile the whole thing took about 5 minutes the first time as it updated my gearbox software then now to swap back and forth takes 30-40 seconds.

I drove to liverpool in 4wd and back from liverpool in rwd and got a 4mpg increase on the way back. So theres a slight improvement in consumption I suspect

It shouldn't affect mpg in either direction.
You've still got all the AWD hardware but instead of actively driving the components via the gearbox, you're now passively driving them via the front wheels. Therefore, the same amount of mechanical resistance and drag However, saying all that, stranger things have happened

I'm just amazed that I'd never seen this mentioned here before, or never noticed.

Yeah it's the same people who do the XHP flash. I've not been convinced enough that it will make enough difference to go ahead with XHP but xdelete is something I've always wanted for my car. The ability to go from 4WD to RWD is fantastic

You'd need a USB-C to Ethernet adapter and a ENET cable to connect to the OBD2 port, both of which are available on ebay or Amazon.

Where there might be a gain, is if the vehicle's tyres are 'fighting' the xDrive tolerances. Disengagement (open transfer clutch) will allow any rotational differences, without either the extra losses of the slipping clutch pack and/or tyre scuffing. |

you can also get the black MHD wifi adapter as it's no cables and works with XHP, xDelete and Bimmercode.
