Anybody recommend a good jewellery's cleaning / polishing cloth for their watch?

Have had a good one for a number of years, but time to treat myself to a new one!!!!

Cape cod for polishing. Soap and water for cleaning, with a very soft toothbrush.

Any recommendations for how often you get your automatic movements serviced/cleaned?

My power reserve has dropped right down in the last week, and think it is probably accumulation of dirt or lack of oil in the mechanism stopping the mainspring turning.
Would have had it serviced last year but everywhere closed up and never got round to it, but it's going for one tomorrow.

How often for preventative maintenance in the future though?

TWR watch repairs. https://www.twrwatchrepairs.co.uk/

Top guys - watch nuts - very transparent pricing.

They are also an accredited omega and Sinn service centre

Doohhh……just sent my omega off for a full service and restoration…..which was £560. These guys are half the price .

Are they accredited Omega specialists????

My Breitling navitimer needs a service too. Might use these guys if they are good….?

I'm in the camp where it's sent in only when it's not running right e.g. not running to COSC specs; gaining/losing 10s+ a day. Some owners will do preventative maintenance by servicing them every 4 or 5 years.

It also depends on the watch. I sent a 2003 watch for it's first service last year after 17 years (I wear them on rotation); contrast that with a high beat El Primero which has had 4 services in the same period.

Prices say “from” and I couldn’t see Omega on the price list

Need to get my tag f1 automatic serviced, had it about 5 years now and the power reserve is noticeably shortened. I've also managed to crack the ceramic bezel so looking to get that sorted, might give these guys a go rather than sending it back to Tag.

Having historically swapped back and forth between my Omega Seamaster and Apple watches, I fancied giving myself a couple of other options without spending a fortune.

The Spinnaker is for daily wear, while the Nordgreen is intended as something simple/understated for when the occasion demands something a bit smarter.

I know these won't appeal to everyone as they are not exactly precision instruments, but I think they look great for the price point.

Guys.

Wondering what people do for insurance for watches in excess of £3k.

I have them added to my home insurance policy. Wondering if a watch specific policy would be better?

Keen to hear what others do.

Many thanks.

Mine are just named on the home insurance along with Mrs Nibbles jewellery and some artwork. I've never looked in to separate insurance.

I've got them in a big, strong, heavy safe with other bits and pieces and insured. The safe gives a lot more peace of mind than the insurance.

I've got my watch (about £2500 to buy new currently) and my wife's engagement ring (fair bit more than that) and a couple other things insured through a specific jewellery and high-value items policy, 4 items totalling about £10k.

Worldwide cover, includes any kind of loss/theft/damage, and pays out cash straight to BACS, rather than jewellery vouchers which many home insurance policies do.
Couple of caveats like if you're in a hotel and leave it unattended in the room they must be kept in a safe or theft won't be covered, but nothing surprising there.

Costs us about £150/year. Home insurance wanted £10 a month more for the two items anyway, plus if we did have to claim, don't want it to affect our home insurance premiums.
And it hasn't gone up in price for 3 years now either.

Highworth Insurance is the broker, can't remember who the underwriter is

Just out of interest. Phoned for a quote.

In summary £140per annum for 3 watches valued at £4K, £3.5k and £3k.

Taking them out of home insurance saves me £90. Cover no where near as good as excess of £150 and need to confirm if like for like replacement.

Third world problems!!!! 😂
