The trick is this:

Pretend your dog is lying under there and you're going to poke him in the nose with your big toe but as soon as you do he's going to try and bite you.

Therefore you're going to put it straight in and pull it out quite quickly. It's actually the act of REMOVING your foot that triggers the boot release.

If you leave your foot in there too long or withdraw it too slowly it won't work.

Do it with what I said above in mind and it will work every single time.
Agree with this advice - have had my 435 GC for 14 months and once sorted technique have had no issues at all.

Here are my two cents, kick in the middle of the diffuser (don't hit it ), take a step back and the trunk will open.

Read the handbook, it's in there.

"Stand in the centre behind the vehicle, approximately an arms length away.
A foot must move as far as possible in the direction of travel and be withdrawn again immediately. In this movement the leg must pass through the range of both sensors, behind and beneath the bumper."
