If this 4GC has anything even close to the rear seat space of the E92 or E90, I agree with you. I get why they make the 6GC, but this 4GC baffles me. It may be that it'll be more luxurious than the F30, but then that could have been just as effectively been achieved via the packages BMW so dearly love.

Personally, I need the money and the space.

Plus, my car looks damn good!
You know that's right! Anytime BMW use words like "gran" and "coupe" to identify the car, one can expect to pay a few thousand more for each adjective. LOL BMW make good cars, and I like them, but BMW are profit-mongers just like every other car company.

As E46M above suggested, this 4GC should have just been the F30 sedan. It tests credulity to think that the 4GC costs any more to make than the F30. What has to be done, really? Program the robots to press the sheet metal somewhat differently.

Moreover, this marketing chicanery of assigning even numbers to coupes and "swoopy" sedans and odd numbers to "boxy" sedans is ridiculous from a consumer's POV, even if it makes sense in some other mysterious way. I mean let's face, who gives a tinkers dam what number is on their BMW? People buy the one they can afford and that they like the looks of, or, they buy largest or smallest one they can afford and that will also serve the functions they have in mind for it.

What? BMW have only used the words "Gran Coupe" to describe any car once, the 6GC, and that's barely priced any different to the standard 6 coupe, and it's pretty much cheaper than the 6 convertible!.... how is that using the GC to profit monger?!

We haven't seen the pricing for the 4GC yet.. so how's about you wait for that before judging?

And given that many F30 owners here don't seem to care much for the Gran Coupe, don't you think that actually making the 4GC just the F30 in the fist place would have been a bad idea?

Most of the people on this forum it seems, given the amount of pissing and moaning about it.

I really like the concept of a Gran Coupe, this one or in any other BMW series. With BMW going a little softer with the handling and ride on most of their cars, the Gran Coupe gives them a platform where they can maintain more sporting handling and styling characteristics. From everything I read, the 6 series GC handles better than the 5 series. I happen to have switched earlier this year from my lovely E63 to an F10 because me and my wife had a baby and my coupe simply did not work for me anymore. A Gran Coupe would have been perfect, but none existed in the BMW lineup. Now that I have seen an 6er Gran Coupe up close and sat inside, I noticed the rear seat has more leg room than my F10. I know in truth it is a 4 seater, but that is all most people need.

With regards to the 4series Gran Coupe, I think it's a needed range becasue the 5er and 6er have grown in size and weight so much. I could see myself being interested in trading down from my F10 to a M4 GC if the rear seat is decent. These cars have grown quite a bit and I think this series will be the equivalent of the old 5 series. I love BMW's but I think they need to get lighter and bring back the high standards of handling the entire range used to have. The GC could be range where BMW could maintain the more sporting characteristics that attracted most of us to BMW. I for one, hope they do that.

Yeah, it's a forum, so I can piss and moan all I want about them pissing and moaning all I like. Get it? Sure people can have their own opinions, I can respect that, but it just seems to me that some people lack any kind of objectivity in their opinions.

Wish the back door was just a tad bit longer. If it's going to have a longer wheelbase, why not have more leg room in the rear with an easier entry to go along with it?

M-sport, 335 diesel would be nice too.

Got that idea by seating in the front, adjusting my seat to the position I would drive and then sat in the rear seat. I have a F10 5series and have done the same and it is tighter in the rear. I know they are not in the same bracket, but I came to the F10 from the previous E63 6 series and I no longer had a sporty 4 door car in the BMW range so I got a 5 series. The new 5 series does not handle like the old ones. It's more like a 7 series. If the GC would have been in the market, I would have gone in that direction. Now, if a 4 series GC comes out, and that range (3/4 series) keeps getting bigger, I would consider and M4 GC.

I haven't read Car and Driver, but every review that I have read says the Grand Coupe handles great, which is not really the case for the current F10, which I own and is definitely softer, floatier and with a lot more body roll than previous 3 5 series, which I have owned or tested them all.

If that render was an actual car right now I would probably do whatever it takes to go buy one. I LOOOOVE the 6GT but it is a bit large for me. Can't wait for the reveal now.

I agree.

Yes, it does look nice, if one wants an even bigger 3 series.
This "gran coupe" idea is getting out of hand.
BMW already has a 4 series sedan, it's called the "3 series".
The 4 series is supposed to be the 3 series coupe version.
If BMW wanted to see a "gran coupe", then why not just design the 3 series to look like that?

BMW decided to break tradition by giving the coupe versions of their sedans a different number. But then, they decide to make a different looking sedan based on the coupe and simply call it a "4 gran coupe". It's NOT coupe.
It's a SEDAN, clear and simple.

As for a smaller sedan, I welcome the idea of a 1/2 series sedan. If BMW feels compelled to call it a "2 gran coupe", ok whatever. But don't make a 1/2 series sedan and then make a 'gran coupe'. It's just too freaking many cosmetic variants.

If the 4 coupe is based on the 3 series chassis, then how different will a
gran coupe, based on the 4 coupe that's based on the 3 series, actually be in terms of driving experience?
A longer wheelbase will make for a better ride, but won't be as nimble as a shorter wheelbase.
Seems the size of the 4 gran coupe is close to a 5 series. So why not just make the 5 series look that? It makes no sense to me. It's an experiment in cosmetics and visual appeal.

I can only suspect that it will start somewhere around $48000~50000 for 4 cyl version and will be around $60k with couple of options. I think it's going to fill in the gap between 528 and 535.
Gap between a 528 and 535, what gap?
It's the same chassis and one gets a turbo 4 and the other a turbo 6.
I don't see a 'gap' in there.

Also, I don't think the 4GC chassis is based on the 5, but on the 3.

This BMW GC idea is an answer to a question no on asked. It works better as a single stylish model in the lineup the way it is with VW, Audi, and MB.
BMW, it seems, wants a GC for all of it's series. That's what I don't get.

The VW CC is cool because it's a unique style that isn't coming from a coupe or sedan, style wise. It's unique mode in the VW lineup.
Likewise the CLS.
The Audi A7 is also no based on a coupe. It shares Audi/VW MLB chassis, which is what the 2012 A6 is on. There isn't an A6 coupe.
