Arrow Run E85 Without a Tune!

So, admittedly I know very little about E85 and all that, but was catching up with a friend today and he tells me about his company and this product they have that installs to our cars and allows any mixture of E85. No tuning required.

Sounded pretty cool, was wondering if others had heard of something like that or were interested in me getting more info?

Very serious, though like I said I do not know much about it all I am new to looking into engine mods and what not and the "mapping" and E85 stuff are mostly just words to me at this point lol.

But was at my old work and former coworker buddy pulled up in his E46 ( I think it is ) and was telling me about this thing he and his friend are making. Sounded rad, so thought I would see if anyone here wanted more info.

Well, this http://burgertuning.com/N54_secondar...ctors_BMW.html

coupled with the right fuel pump and you have what you want. Course, running e85 without a tune is as good as regular ol corn on the cobb.

Running E85 without tune

- No noticeable performance gain
- Horrible fuel economy compared to normal gas
- Questionable whether the stock F-series fuel system is up for the job
- ???

These are my thoughts about it

BMW tells you not to use anything more than E15 (15% ethanol) in these cars because the fuel system is not designed for high concentrations of ethanol. All ethanol does is raise the octane level, preventing pre-ignition when running higher boost levels. It only contains about 73% the thermal efficiency of gasoline, so you lose about 27% fuel economy. Unless you're running over 15 PSI of boost, ethanol does nothing for you and also can damage the fuel pump and certain other items that are degraded by exposure to ethanol content above 15%. Lastly, ethanol is hygroscopic (it attracts and is soluble with water), so it can introduce water into your fuel system. Not a good thing with direct injection (or any other sort of fuel injection).

Gotcha, well thank you all for explaining.

As I said, I know less than jack about it lol

He was just telling me about how it is a chip or something that plugs into ECU and handles calculations and what not so I thought it was cool to share. Guess not!

Sorry about that :/

Ask them if you can use E85 + NOS at the same time? If so, I might be interested in this product.

you should try it out and let us know the results. I didnt believe any of this until i saw the website lol. Looks like it might work, although all of those platforms it talked about are nothing like the F series.
