Mission Performance B58 Dyno results

I actually have a M140i but this seemed like the most appropriate sub forum.

I have been running the Mission Performance tune for the last two weeks.
I’ve been happy with the drivability, drives like stock but just with more everywhere and much more up top when I’ve had the chance to wind it out.

Finally got a chance to get the car on the dyno this morning and the results were better than I expected.
The car has the stock intake with a K&N filter and stock downpipe. Running Australian 98ron fuel which is similar to US 93.

It's worth mentioning up front that Australian dynos usually read a fair bit lower than US spec Dynojet numbers.

We did three power runs with tune loaded and all were very consistent around 390whp, best was 391.8whp.
Flashed it back to stock while still strapped down and did three runs, once again all very consistent with the best being 307.4whp.

So 84 wheel horsepower gain from just the tune!!!

B58 is a beast, even the dyno operator was surprised with the result.

The Mission Performance tune also runs safer AFRs than the stock tune which stay around 14-15:1 the whole way.
We couldn’t find somewhere to tap into to get a boost reading, but going off my P3 ODB gauge it looks like peak boost went from 12 to 18psi.

I’ve ordered a BCS high flow catted downpipe to help it breathe a bit better. So will go back once that is on and I’m expecting over 400whp.
For comparison two 1Ms were on the same dyno a couple of days ago and with intake, DPs, intercooler and MHD stage 2 tunes they both were around 350whp.

Overall I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mission Performance. Process was simple (you just need a laptop, an internet connection and an enet cable) and communication was easy.

Great info... did the exhaust sound change a bit?

How about turbo lag?

Any issues with putting the power down?

Can hear more spooling noises through the intake, haven't noticed any changes to exhaust sound. My car has the MPE and the big resonator cut out of the mid pipe.

No more turbo lag than stock.

It will turn the tyres from a roll if you floor it nearly anywhere in second gear (mine is a manual).
I have 255/35/18 AD08R tyres on 18x9 Advan GTs.

Impressive. Would be great if we could get 90-100 whp from tune+intake+dp on 93 octane.

18 psi is great for 93 octane, my jb4 is struggling with anything above 15-16 psi on 93.

Those are AFRs not torque.

390whp stock turbo is impressive and all car has is a k&n filter. Most fbo N55 335s are hard pressed to do that. Said most not all.

Still with just a filter mod again ,impressive!!

As said above those are AFR.

The last sheet has tractive effort, not sure why it doesn't give a normal torque reading.

So the only mod that might have an effect is the air filter, (besides the tune)?
Any chance running Stage 2 with the stock downpipe is going to cause a problem?

Yes it'll probably cause problems because it'll be too restrictive and you might find that any additional pops and bangs will burn out your cat

Looking at the stock number this dyno reads a bit lower then US dynojet numbers. Stock B58 numbers are normally in the 330 whp. So I expect this to be over 400 whp on a dynojet.

Stock B58 numbers are normally 330 at the crank not whp.
BMW claim 326bhp (engine) for the B58 engines in the 340/440. They claim 360 or so for the 140/240s

What he is referring to is most 340i's (non-MPPSK) dyno at around 330whp stock (dynojet) here in the states. It seems to be pretty typical for the newer B58 and S55 variant BMW engines to dyno at or above their crank rated hp values to the wheels.

BMS dyno'd their standard 340i on 330 whp, the m140i and m240i should be a bit stronger. The dyno they use is a bit the standard here on the forum and makes it easy to compare it to different cars/tunes. So if the delta is 80 hp it would push it in the 400 whp range. Which can be explained if it pushes 18 psi.

Ofcourse every dyno read different. But it is known that bmw underrates the power on their(turbo) cars last years.

Hope we will see a US dyno sheet soon with stage 2 figures.

BMS always uses STD rather than SAE correction. It inflates the numbers a bit and appeals to those who don't know any better. I always have a little more respect for companies who post SAE numbers. That 330 STD BMS made would have been 315-320 SAE. People need to stop comparing the numbers shown by different brands of dynos, with different correction factors, different smoothing factors, different operators, different octane/quality gas etc, etc. It's becoming laughable. Mission's stock 340i only made 294 WHP SAE, and yet if you put it up against Burger's 340i test car, stock to stock, they'd probably be dead even. What matters is the before/after delta at hand, on the same dyno, same gas, same car, and Nugget, you're making some great gains!!

Bingo. Let's worry more about the percentage gain from whatever you was running to what you are.

I know I gained 20% over mppsk for my vehicle from the before / after run and I'm 28% up from someone running a relatively stock car - panel filter + exhaust. Let's say 30% up on stock.

This ties in with the 10% gain over stock for mppsk.

Unless you've got multiple cars on the same Dyno on the same day it's really hard to work stuff out.

I agree 18 psi is probably a bit much for the stock cat, I have already ordered a down pipe.

There are no additional pops and bangs.

That's why I mentioned this reads different to a dynojet, you can't directly compare.
Dyno dynamics is the most common type of dyno here and I've had comments from Australians that 300whp seems high for a stock number.

But it's still a ~30% gain.

My buddy and I put my ER catless DP on today, and I am SO READY to pull the trigger on this Stage 2 flash. Throttle response is now instantaneous, and damn, those overrun crackles and pops.....
