Never sell a Rolex! Values only ever go one way.

Remember what happened to Jennifer Grey after she got a nose job... faults give character and memorability!

Welcome back mate, not seen you around for a while. The thread is pretty iconic I'd say as we love watches and we love a little piss take out of the thread title.

Always some nice watches and good buying advice in here from very real people which I appreciate. I got so close to jumping on that Omega 30% off someone posted....for the good of my health I did not!

Tomorrow is new watch day. Narrowed it down to two, but still undecided. Swaying slightly towards the Heritage, which I had the previous version of a few years ago.

Hoping for 20% ish discount in negotiating. Anyone haggled on watches lately? Any tips?

^^^

100% the heritage, lovely looking watches IMO and look a little different. My preference would be the silver mesh straps on them, again distinguishes it from a divers and pretty much most other watches. There are some 'relative' bargains in the range too, selecting a non sapphire case back seems to take it from near £6k to £3k-£4k options. The Super Ocean, I don't know, to my eye does not look as 'premium' as a nice Omega PO, or Rolex Sub etc etc. ETTO and its your cash of course.

Enjoy the shopping, good times!

I think that's where I am in my head too. The Heritage can be a dress watch with the steel mesh strap, or a sportier looking watch with the rubber strap.

I might buy with the mesh and get a rubber strap too, although not that one if I already have the mesh metal strap. Might go for the ocean racer strap with holes in, looks more sporty.

I think the mesh is a cracking strap, last forever, and let's be honest metal brackets help sell if you ever move on. Selling used leather etc very difficult.

I replaced my Monza Classic (Alligator brown strap) with a £30 eBay leather. Changed up the colour, went for holes and contrast stitching, it's fantastic should have done it years ago. Just suggesting no point getting the official rubber straps etc unless you really want them. I think I'm lucky with this one as I found a supplier who made straps for this watch and buckle so the Tag clasp mechanism fits, looks fairly OM still.

Good luck with the negotiation, I think many trades are struggling so should be some room for you!

That looks good.

The rubber straps don't cost too much anyway, although if you go for the original deployment clasp it does. The breitling rubber strap deployment clasp is stunning though, so I might cough up for that as well, but maybe at a later date......

Back home, watch on wrist. Went for the rubber strap in the end.

Reason being, I want both, but couldn't afford them both today. If I only had the steel mesh strap I'd be back there next week buying the rubber strap too. But, if I bought the rubber, I could go months before wanting the steel one. So that told me which was my favourite.

Couldn't get to the 20%, managed 15% though. Tried all the tricks and coercion that I know, but to no avail, both jewellers stood fast, even after calls to head office and me walking out to lunch, maybe never to return, and nothing would get either to discount more.

I suppose I could have shopped online and maybe got a little more, but I also like the whole buying experience. And if I go back for the other strap, they'll give me the same discount and swap them over for nothing as often as I like.

That's how to shop ZeroFx , just make a decision, negotiate your price, make the dealer/shop your friend going forward......and just get on with it.

Oh, and the bush button deployment clasp on the rubber strap really is miles and miles nicer than the mechnism on the steel one.

Great watch, for me it has the perfect height to width ratio of 3-1, I have mine on a rubber strap with the curved lug ends and white stitching.

The 2500D movement is also very accurate and robust.
