if so, was it better than a stage 2+ map with stock turbo ?
I personally did not yet do so, but I‘ve been told that it should be no problem, because of the size of the TS1 (not too large). But I didn‘t consider it so far, because I don‘t see any reason. For OTS Maps I used the stock turbo. Then I wanted more power, so I switched to an upgrade turbo with a custom map.

Yes it makes no sense in your situation. I just wondered if before getting your custom tune, you drove the car with OTS maps and noted an improvement over stock turbo worth buying a stage 1 turbosystems without a tune.

I don' think so, because it's the tune that presets performance figures via boost, ignition and so on. So with an OTS tune and a non-stock turbo, I would guess you probably get the same or less amount of power figures, not more (your ECU would immediately interfere in that case).

But for your special chronological scenario, where you would at first install the hardware and secondly drive to the tuner in order to get a custom tune, that would still work. At least if the turbo is not too big and you drive calmly to your tuner.

thank you!

As I am not sure whether the local authorities will notice an (illegal) upgraded turbo, I don't want to invest in a custom tune for the moment.

My understanding was that a bigger turbo is generally more efficient, thus lowers the iAT, so even with an OTS map you could get better timing and more power.

But I don't know really to what extent, and whether it's worth the investment..
