Yeah....early F30's had a problem with the base of the Sportline seat (http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...highlight=rust). Couldn't see the rust unless you looked underneath or at the hinge. I was lucky that my dealership accepted it as a warranty claim and replaced them.

It doesn't take much searching to find the common design issues that WILL go wrong on the E90/N54 platform. By comparison, the F30 launch was significantly more reliable. That's how improvement works, when issues are found, they are fixed on the following generations. Injectors Coils HPFP Oil pan leak Valve cover leak Water pump Wastegate/turbo assembly OFHG leak Subframe/PS pulley contact Walnut blasting Mechatronic seal on steptronic |

2013 328i with 67k miles
I bought the car (2013 base model 328i) in January of 2016 with 44k on it. Currently has 67k on it.
Problems so far: - Driver's side mirror electrically dead -- replaced under warranty - Hood release cable replaced (by me) with redesigned part. This was the double cable in front. Absolutely nothing was wrong with the latches. I also had to buy a set of tires on vacation after picking up a nail in one of the the run-flats. I was 500 miles from home, and had a flat leaking severely on a rainy Sunday morning; had to be at work on Monday. Very few tire stores are open on Sunday mornings! NTW in KC would not patch a run-flat tire (company policy) and had no run-flats in stock, so I opted to buy a set of normal tires as mine were going to need replacement soon. closing in on 46k miles:
- Replaced a parking sensor - Replaced the head unit - Replace driver door lock - Rear hatch brake light housing broke off and was replaced - Replaced a sensor for the diesel emissions (not sure what that was...) All small problems (except for the head unit), but I had way too many trips to the dealer for all these issues on top of maintenance. I'm on the fence about getting an other BMW because of this.

56600 KM 2013 328xi CEL went on, turns out the engine thermostat has failed and needs to be replaced under third party warranty. Other than that it's been smooth sailing for the 3+ months I've owned it.

Thank god I bought the extended warranty. Anyone know how much the rod bushing replacements would have cost without? |

2014 328D with 105,000 MI. No maintenance other than scheduled oil changes at 10k intervals, rear brakes were just done, front are coming up soon. Brake Flush after the 2 yr. mark and a fuel filter in there at some point. Whatever the computer says is what i do. nothing more, nothing less. i replaced a running light that burned out and my horn doesn't work. Other than that it feels new.
I did have two warranty repairs for the transfer case. One at 50k mark for the transfer case essentially blowing and the same transfer case issue at 75k but got them to fix again for free. |

My thermostat gave out last night, 30k miles on the clock.
Symptoms included engine never reaching operating temperature, engine cooling fan running full speed and CEL (duh). Dealer said it's very common on pre-2016 models. |

I just had mine swapped out this past weekend due to the same issue. Thankfully the fail position for the thermostat is open preventing any potential overheating issues. Would have been a $500 job if I did not have a third party warranty to cover it.

2013 328i xDrive, 65k miles on clock, owned since 52k.
Rear passenger window motor, side cameras + wiring, both covered under CPO. Other than that, just oil every 5-7k and brake fluid/coolant flush at 60k. Will be doing transmission fluid and pan myself, same with diffs and xfer case. -tgm |

For those with front side cameras. Do yourself a favor and put dielectric grease on the connector. These things are prone to water intrusion like a mofo...
