From the reviews of others on here and my own digging, Sonos wins.
Admittedly that was my preference, however the BOSE was a curve ball with its new update. The next thread is going to be USB Record decks... |

I am a recent Sonos convert and bought 2 Play 1's for kitchen & lounge.I have linked my Spotify premium account and the system sounds superb with plenty of bass for such small speakers. The app is very easy to use and controls everything brilliantly.
The only note of caution I have is with connectivity of the Iphone/iPad apps to Sonos as I have 2 TP Link powerline wifi extenders to boost the wifi signal around the house. These work to give a very powerful wifi signal around the house but do cause problems with Sonos. They are all paired to the wifi router so have the same SSID as the router. I often find when opening the app on the iphone/ipad it can't find Sonos so fails to launch. I have to switch off/on the wifi extenders and briefly turn on/off airplane mode on the Apple device and then it will connect. It can be quite a faff. Android devices seem more reliable but there are also sometimes connection glitches. Reading the Sonos forums this is a known issue and Sonos don't officially support wifi extenders and do not recommend them with a Sonos system.

If you find Richer Sounds cheaper than Jl, just to say I've twice been able to get a price match from JL. Saved £50 on a Canton DM50 Soundbase. I believe there is a dedicated pricematch order line at the Call Centre. I found experience reasonably straightforward. TT |

Wife got her washing machine (Christmas present) from there. I think the twin One sets are pretty much same across the board (Amazon, Richer, JL). |

I'd go John Lewis, don't you get the two year warranty from them?
I always go Richer Sounds but I have a good relationship with the manager as we've bought so much stuff over the years so get decent prices. |

You get a 2 year warranty from Sonos as standard.

The beauty of Sonos is the way you can build the system I started with a single five which was very good by itself then added another for the stereo pair a while later. |

Going initially for 2 X 1's, as these give greater flexibility in placement around the house. Can have both in living room or one upstairs and one downstairs. Will pop to John Lewis tomorrow and nab one of the dual packs. Hopefully this thread has been helpful to some lurkers. I have a Synology 215j NAS - a very good NAS with plenty of functionality. https://www.synology.com/en-global/products/DS215j |

If I was sitting in a living room environment not sure that two ones other than background sound would do it for me. Not trying to put you off, the ones work great in other places but wouldn't want your Sonos experience to be dulled in your first application.
Of course once you are hooked the soundbar for the lounge environment has a wonderfully framed sound if a little lacking in low down drive which adding the sub sorts out very well. |

The Synology works fabulously with Sonos. You can even copy your playlists there so you can leave your computer turned off and it's not phone/tablet dependant when it's being used.

It's main job at moment is backing up my camera folder when it detects updates to it. It also works well in a security camera role (need to sort it better though). One of next years tasks is to develop the NAS further. These days I think a NAS is the way forward really is quite versatile. |

I built my own NAS using an HP Proliant shell/mobo and NAS4free.
Runs off a USB stick which plugs directly to the mobo internally. I've got 8TB (4x 2TB WD Red drives) in a Raid 10 setup using ZFS file system, which is 5.4TB usable with the remainder as backup. SMART monitoring and error checking so if any single drive begins to fail it alerts me and I can just swap out the faulty drive. Full remote access if required, but highly configurable for security. I have automatic backups of my work files, PC OS images, and photos to it. Also have our entire music collection, itunes server and all our DVDs ripped to it. Can stream the music/movies and a photo slideshow to any device on the home network. Could stream externally, but feel that compromises some of the security (and puts me in grey legal waters!) Also gives options to run my own mail server, web host, etc if I want in future. |

Can't you get something like a Sonos receiver and hook it up to your existing amp/speakers? That way you have a lot more choice depending on the type of sound you like, plus can reuse speakers if you're already using them eg for a home cinema setup.
Being forced to have the speakers along with the wifi part puts me off. |

Or Sonos Connect:Amp - hook directly to speakers Downside to the Connect is you have to turn on your amp separately, so it's just not as "lazy" as the Connect:Amp or Play range |

How is the connect with no amp or speakers more expensive than the Sonos 1??
If you have existing speakers, this seems like a nice mini project for a raspberry Pi or any old android phones you might have cluttering up a drawer |

If I bought say a connect amp, I would then still need to buy a One for upstairs.
Also the point is playing from my NAS and not downstairs system. At some point, yes will likely get a connect and boost for playing in Garage and garden. No I am not buggering around with a pi lol. My missus would be well impressed not lol. |
