Not sure i have any access to fog/smoke machines locally. Perhaps i could look into building one myself temporarily?

I've tried spraying soapy water onto the charge pipe with no luck.

yeah i believe there are some youtube videos online with DIY smoke machines. maybe an auto parts store rents them too? had to do this once with my 300zx twin turbo, but a shop did it for me for very cheap (think it was like $40), it helped find the boost leak.

I'll give that a shot. It's been pretty confusing because i don't think i'm down on power from this strange sound. I'm going to take some logs today since im running BM3 stage 1 and see if its affecting any of my metrics. I'd imagine that should tell if its significant or not.

Such a strange issue.. it sounds like a turtle dying

Hey man! I used to have a similar problem and found the solution to be easy in my situation. I found that the bungs that had come with my aftermarket chargepipe for meth were not fully tightened and ended up coming off. Make sure that the NPT bungs are tight, if they are not there then that is your problem.

Garage List
Double check any bungs on the CP. Those are common sources of leaks if they aren't tightened

Hey guys thanks for the replies! So the little bungs on the CP were installed with the ones provided by BMS. They had red locktite on them and they're on SUPER tight. I don't think its the bungs.

Could you take a picture of the connection of your charge pipe to the throttle body? Sometimes the pipe doesn't go over the last lip on the throttle body.

Certainly! Here are some pictures of the connection from the CP to the TB. From my understanding a tiny gap is acceptable as it doesn't fully mate to the connection. But correct me if im wrong.

Additionally, here are some logs:

It looks like my boost target (PSIG) and actual boost (MAP) are meeting. It doesn't seem to be an issue affecting my actual ability to get to boost, but take a look at these logs too if you're interested (kinda crappy logs but you get the idea with both)

Looks good to me... very odd. Could be something that happens only under boost, like swelling of the joint because of weak material but I highly doubt that.

Bootmod3 Stage 1, only mod is my Chargepipe from Burger Motor sports. It definitely is a strange situation, someone mentioned it could be the vacuum lines so i will take a look at those later tonight. I also saw some user from Reddit post a similar issue and people were saying it might be the PCV but that didn't make much sense to me.

It only happens under load/boost. I cannot replicate it if i rev the car in the driveway. So it needs a lot of pressure to replicate

You need to do a boost leak test.

Check for loose connections that may seal statically, but will leak if wiggled.

You may need to change the o-rings from the oem seal. Read this: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1659611

It gets confusing when you post the same thread in 2 sections... https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1946775
