Good for you and they did not find the flash. Which version B58 are they installing?

Did you flash back to stock before turning it in?
Guess they assumed the spark plugs were original BMW installed and decided a "one in a million" spark plug failure .....
Sometimes a little luck is needed.

My friends 340i engine with NGK IR (2 step colder) plugs. These were directly dropped in they weren't gaped or touched because they came out the box at .023" surprisingly. Insulator appears to have cracked or even melted.

Cylinder #2 is trashed. It still runs, but misfires occasionally at idle and under load.

So true and now that it has been established that champion plugs are lawnmower plugs (rolls eyes) - I'd like to point out that jet skis back in the day came with NGK plugs

Gosh darn jet ski plugs (raises fist in air)

FYI a lot of the NGK plugs out there are fake and will melt down and cause tuning problems. It's virtually impossible to tell the difference I saw a thread about it on another forum with photos.

Yep, they actually posted an article about it. The only way to know it's real is by buying from an authorized distributor that gets product straight from their warehouse. Getting cheap ones from eBay, amazon, etc. is a no-no.

If you are surprised that they were already at 0.23 gap that might be an indicator that they were not the real deal but some knock-offs

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the (97506) NGK plugs they sell aren't even the correct plug for the B58?

Who knows man just because 1 spark plug from Champion and 1 spark plug from NGK failed doesn't mean they're garbage. The fuel injector could of been over-fueling or leaking from all we know that caused the insulator to break off and/or melt.

I'm on my second set of NGK and swap them out every 10,000 miles or so and never had issues. When I pulled my plugs out the box they were .024 and I gaped them down properly to .023 which I doubt makes the worlds difference.

It's not so much about the gap, although there is a slight overall length difference between the 97506 and the 94201 NGKs. This could totally affect performance.

The correct NGK plug (just like the Champions) have the indention for the the coil spring to sit in the terminal. 94201 are the only NGKs that belong in the B58.

While I appreciate the explanation and assurance that I chose the right plugs (94201), I think you completely missed what I was trying to say.

What I and the other person was implying:
Why would authentic NGK plugs come pre-gapped at anything other than factory spec unless they were tampered with or counterfeit?
