I'm trying to figure out OEM clutch options for higher horsepower/torque MT cars after reading some unpleasant reviews of the aftermarket clutch options.
We know the 335is/135is/550i clutch is a great bolt on upgrade for e92 335i cars. So knowing: 2015 335i (F30) OEM Clutch kit PN: 21208631999 and 2010 335i (E92) OEM Clutch kit PN: 21208631999 and 2013 335is Clutch: 21207603248 2013 550i Clutch: 21207603248 Theoretically the 335is/135is/550i clutch should bolt up to F30 cars? Please poke holes in my logic. Also xDrive uses the same clutch as RWD. PNs from getbmwparts.com, ecstuning.com and realoem.com |

Clutch options
Stefmiesterb, did you go with the 335is/550i clutch? If yes, can you give me a summary on the performance and fit? I'm tuned with a catted dp, making 400hp and 441tq at the crank so the 335is/550i clutch should be able to hold down the power. My clutch is slipping and I need to get a replacement soon. The only aftermarket options I see available for the 435ix are Spec, Big bend, and Clutch masters. What kind of clutches do the members here recommend and have installed in your manual 435ix?

How many miles on your clutch? I'm making slightly more power to the crank and have 72k on the car. My ultimate car maintenance program is about to expire so I'm thinking of trying to get my clutch replaced under the maintenance program which would be at no cost to me. I may be able to talk my SA into letting me pay the difference for the 550 clutch upgrade.

I swapped out my OEM clutch for the 550i clutch back in February and I havent had a single problem so far. It grabs really well and the pedal is maybe 10-20% stiffer than the stock clutch in my opinion. Currently making around 500whp and it is still going strong

I'd also recommend replacing the oem flywheel if you're going to be underneath there swapping clutches. I went with the Spec SMFW because I had just bought the car and didn't know how long the oem flywheel had been inside the trans. Needless to say it was burnt the hell up, probably would've failed on me a few months later.

That's the only downside to having a single. Plus they're about the same price for a new oem DMFW and a Spec SMFW so it was a no brainer for me to just switch it. Daily driving feels the same because it revs a lot more freely too |

I went Spec stage 2+ with Spec steel SMFW. As Mineral said, it is most noticeable when accelerating in higher gears from 1500-2000rpm. The chatter when sitting usually isnt too bad. You definitely do get used to it.
Noise aside, the clutch feel is great and I am very happy with it.

The 335is and 550 clutch is the same part number, 21207603248, and bolts right up. It's literally plug-n-play.

335is is a good upgrade for an OE clutch but if you're FBO and more you'll want do go aftermarket, Spec Stage 2+ is the most popular. You can mate with OE DMFW or Spec SMFW. SMFW does have a little rattle noise. A lot of that nose can simply be reduced by raising the idle in a tune.

I"m at 72,000 miles, have been tuned for 24,000 and still on stock clutch. I don't drag race much so never dump the clutch but I do drive spirited 90% of the time.

Its going to cost me roughly $2350 for; tax and labor, 335is/550i clutch, OEM flywheel, transmission and differential fluid flush. I think the previous owner of my 435ix dumped the clutch a lot or something, because its too early to be getting a new clutch at 52k miles. I think you'll be good for at least another 20k miles on the stock clutch with the tune. I heard the Xdrive is a pain to work on compared to RWD. My car should be done by Wednesday.

I posted a few logs with what I suspected might be a slipping clutch. PTF unfortunately didn't have much input other than telling me my octane isn't that good and gave me the ACN map. Still seems to be slipping so I've been getting quotes for the 335is clutch.
The few shops that I have spoken to all seem a bit leery on installing a clutch for a different platform car because of fitment, pressure plate depth, additional hardware, etc. Definitely interested in getting this done in the next couple weeks. Just haven't decided on a spec clutch or 335is paired with the dual mass |
