I have a 2020 440i with the mp slotted an dimpled brakes. This noise never goes away? I’m bumping a nearly 8 year old forum because y’all are the only ones who spoke about this issue.

So many threads on this. It never goes away until your rotor no longer has dimples and slots, and is essentially a BLANK rotor. By that time you are long past minimum thickness.

Reviving this thread as I have an idea for a solution. I've seen several posts about the air being trapped in the dimples and having nowhere to escape.
Could this be as simple as just fully drilling out the dimples? Has anyone experimented with this or know if this is a bad idea? From what I see, this isn't a problem with fully drilled rotors.

Also, do we just need 1 at the outer face of the rotor hat? I also run spacers, so should it go on before the spacer (directly on rotor hat) or after the spacer? Thank you!

I've installed the M perf rotors and akebono pads last monday and I can also hear the "locust effect". While brakes are applied, no noise at all. I can't see how part # 31108053073 could fix the noise created by the M perf rotors. here's a link with more info about those shims: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1572794 |

I think it should be only between the wheel hub and the rotor. |

Not exclusive to slotted, drilled or dimpled rotors. Clicking is common among a lot of models for some reason. There's been service bulletins with those friction rings floating around for years. Mine clicks quite badly when a corner is heavily loaded, I haven't tried the disk yet.

probably the ticking/clicking noise isn't like the locust noise. Maybe those shims can fix the ticking when turning but won't have any effects of the locust. will see...

installed mperformance brakes with zimmermann slotted/dimpled rotors. Observing the ticking noise when windows down next to a wall. is there a fix for this besides getting blank rotors? Does this have anything to do with properly bedding the brakes in?
are the friction disks from mseries cars fix this?

Ive also gotta ask on this, i get a sound that appears to be like a loose motorcycle chain from front end, that changes slightly when turning left or right. Previous owner also installed slotted/dimpled rotors. Kinda annoying, but if its typical, at least its not a problem per say.

Sorry to revive an old thread but do we put 2 spacers or 1 spacer per wheel? I keep seeing diagrams for both.
I have a 2017 340i with the M Perf brakes and Zimmermann dimpled rotors. Last edited by imperialgrunt; 09-01-2023 at 07:49 PM.. |
