F34 production is being cancelled in 2020 - bmwblog

I don't know about you guys but the 4GC is nowhere near to the 3GT when it comes to space... and I pretty much love this driving position. What's your take on this?

Rumors of the demise of the 5GT proved inaccurate as well, they just call it the 6GT now. I expect the possibility of a larger 4GC replacing both the 3GT and current 4GC are closer to the truth. BMW still needs an extended wheelbase car for the Chinese market. That's what brought about the 3GT, and probably its replacement as well.

I have heard this same strategy from another industry source. BMW will rationalize mid-size 4 door hatchbacks to one model, done well. 4GC was suboptimal for rear couple and cargo for those who wanted that configuration. 3GT has its' exterior design critics. They are aiming for one good one.

Interesting and if true it means there will likely be a 2020 model year F34. I had assumed that the 2019 would be the final model year. I’d like that to be true because my budget might allow me to replace my 2014 car in 2020.

I just picked up a 2014 335i GT and absolutely love it and the day after they announce discontinuing the model, but I hope it will be replaced with a similar model.

Congratz on your GT : ) I guess the others are right, models will merge - I'm quite curious about the changes.

All that's known for sure is that the F34 days are numbered, by roughly two years. It's a pretty safe bet that there will be a G series that fills the same slot in the lineup.

My hope is that the 4GC/GT merge leans more towards the GT style, but if that does happen, oh my word, we'll have to listen to a lot of complainers who love the 4GC (and they wouldn't be wrong). On the other hand, we already know there is no 3/4 g-series wagon coming, so . . . like Billfitz said, having no GT leaves a pretty big hole in the lineup by having only sedans. I know for me and a lot of people, I wouldn't even consider an X4. I guess in 3 years we'll see, which is cutting it pretty close on my lease end. I suppose I'll be looking on CarMax for lightly used Panameras as a backup plan in the meantime.

Again, refer to the 6GT. The 5GT was reviled far more than the 3GT. Did BMW give up on it? No, they restyled it to get rid of the objections over the looks, and renamed it to remove any association with the 5. But under the skin it's the same car. I expect a G version will have more in common with the GT than the GC, probably GT dimensions with GC looks.

No doubt this is what I am hoping for, and what every 4GC fan is dreading, ha.
