First, you need the paddles set, either classic silver or the M3 style.
Second, the cable set with the 2 extra connectors needed.
Third, the back plastic cover for your steering wheel, either the basic line or the M Sport option.
And finally 2 screws to catch the paddles to the steering wheel's body.
That were the parts needed.

After all you need coding.

Thanks! Just dropped at the dealership. Hopefully I covered my tracks well and my warranty covers this fix. They have yet to ask how this happened....

Alot of these sites don't specify if the paddles and back plate are compatible with the xdrive. Are you familiar if they are compatible?

Would these be compatible?

Knowing the cause would be nice to prevent other people from making the same mistake.

Anyone have an idea? Did you read it out with ISTA?

I have the sportline and the back of the steering wheel doesn't have the cutout for the paddle's. I'm not really worried about cutting out the leather but does anyone know if the holes are there for the paddles to screw on to?

Thanks!

If your wheel didn't come with paddles then no, you will need to drill.

Thanks, Kailec. Are there dimples or a mark on where to drill by any chance?

I don't think so. But to be honest it's been a year since I swapped my old Luxury Line wheel out for the Sport one so I don't remember and can't check.

Check that out. It's not the same wheel but I'm sure the concept is the same.

Fellow sport line owner who went through the retrofit process...

On the sport line wheel, there are no visible dimples or holes. There is rubber material over the metal area where the paddles would be screwed in. Keep in mind that you also need a hole for the wires to come through to connect the paddles to the wiring harness.

After pricing out paddles and the wiring harness, I ended up purchasing a complete wheel. I'm really glad I didn't cut up and drill my existing wheel.

I'll PM you where I purchased my wheel. There is one for sale that I think you could get a good deal on.

I had the same symptoms when I removed the SZL and then (after some modifications) put it back. The problem turned out to be the switch connector at the back (the one with the grey locking lever). If this isn't fully snapped in, then none of the switches on the cluster work, but the wipers stay on.

Hello, where I can fisically see if my car is pre-wired? I must dismount and see behind the Airbag?

Watch this video. You can check two ways for the pin

Thank you so much. So the easiest way to make sure I have pre-wired paddles is check out under passenger footrest.

You got it! That being said, what line is your car? My Luxury Line came pre-wired for example, and I would imagine any Sport Line would be as well.

My is a 2013 sport line, i wish is pre-wired. With 2 babies i'll check when i can

EDIT: Check today, i don't have wire n. 5 under footrest, so i must wire in my car. I think, it could be present if there is some other optional?

Hi,
quick question, if you got the 428i - with the M steering wheel, do the 3-series have the same M steering wheel as the 4-series? Meaning, I only need the paddles + back piece?

and if so - does anyone by coincidence know what parts I need to buy?
Coding I can do myself.

Tx, Tim

Steering wheels should be the same. You'll also need a new steering wheel harness to connect the paddle shifters, and the wires for the FEM module to the steering wheel if your car isn't prewired.

I'd suggest taking your wheel apart, taking a good picture of the harness, and using that as a reference for which replacement to buy (the new one should look exactly the same as yours but with two blue connectors for the paddles). I didn't check and ended up ordering the wrong harness

You will have to add the wire yourself, it isn't hard.
