Finally got an update from the dealer...apparently a bunch of cars are being held at port for some reason. Other car updates had "repair" listed according to the SA, but mine had no indication that it was damaged. He is looking into why it is being held and trying to get it released

Two questions for my forum gurus.....

1. Other than damage, why would a car be held at port/vdc for almost 3 weeks?
2. If it is damaged, and it is severe enough to take this long to repair, what, if any, recourse do I have? I understand fenders get dinged, or whatever, and am honestly not that concerned as long as the work is well done. But 3 weeks at port/vdc? They literally built the car in half that time.

I'm stuck at the port in NJ as well ('17 340i with some M Parts going on). They started my work order on 6/9 (car got to port on 6/8) and it still isn't finished. BMW Genius guys are saying that it seems that there are a bunch of 340's stuck at the NJ port. Are they waiting on some kind of software update/emissions update or something like that? Per them, it only seems to be 340s that are taking this long right now.

It was almost in my grasp

Ordered 3/17
Production began 3/31
Production complete 4/6
Shipped on 4/22
Arrived at Port 5/30
At dealer 6/7
Still at dealer on 6/16

My car came in and I was ready to finalize the paperwork and bring her home but on a quick test drive I found the clutch was slipping. Dealer is replacing the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel but unfortunately still waiting on parts. BMW agreed to a $500 credit for the delay which is reasonable since I was able to negotiate a 16% discount initially - I don't think there was much meat left on the bones. I'm not so sure I want the car after this fiasco but will take it for a day long test drive to ensure everything is working as it should. Fingers crossed. Here is the link to the thread regarding my situation - http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1392144

So i ordered on 6/14. Still waiting to hear back for production number but does it look like its gonna be a long wait for me? Or should it be quicker since EOP is nearing and more people are holding out for MY18?

Ugh, that sucks. Read the other thread, too. Not sure what I'd do in your situation, but I'd be tempted to ask them to start over.

BTW, what color is that? Doesn't look like EB, but maybe it's just the lighting...

Well...I got a production number a month ago for a '17. It was supposed to be built week 23. Then that slipped to week 24, now it's week 25. Might have had to do with the Bosch steering gear part shortage that stopped production for a bit.

I cancelled a couple days ago and now looking for '18 allocation.

Had it for European Delivery at the end of April/beginning of May, did an epic 3800 mile road trip throughout Western Europe. Really can't wait for it to finally arrive stateside.

Could be for need to repair something they foresee as a potential recall and they are waiting on parts. Summer of 2016 the M3/M4 production was halted for differential and/or carbon drive shaft issues. Cars at the VPC were held up until they had a resolution (several weeks IIRC). Could be a similar thing here.

6/30 finally got the car after having a defective clutch replaced. I was hesitant to purchase (lease) a car that had an issue at the start but after speaking with the mechanic who did the work and a 100 mile test drive I felt comfortable moving forward. Now I have to wait to break it in but I'm loving how it handles.

Hey guys, was wondering what's the usual time after placing an order until you get the production number and estimates on delivery.
I placed an order 2 weeks ago and i still have no confirmation over production week or anything. I see some people have had their car made in 2 weeks

svic628 It's a F36 440i xDrive. Maybe the custom paint(San Marino blue) is delaying it that much?
