2013 F30 N20 Engine Replacing Vacuum Pump Difficulty
Many sources aren't too descriptive on the specifics.
Was quoted $1019 by a BMW Specialist to replace the vacuum pump along with a long list of other items. I cant afford it, so I told him I will try to YouTube a video and do it myself. He told me that's the last thing I would want to DIY out of the list and most expensive. From my research so far.. it seems like a very simple replacement due to only three bolts, albeit a tight squeeze and likely need to do it with my eyes closed. Is this a case of a shop trying to make money? Or is there something I'm genuinely missing and should rather leave the job to them? Additionally, if anyone has any sources, guides, or tips, much appreciated! You can see my other threads on everything I have to fix, but the Vacuum Pump mostly because it is filled with leaked oil. |

I have my engine outside the car. I will be taking the vacuums pump out to remove the valve cover and head etc this weekend. it may be a little tricky to replace while the engine is in the car as the space is tight between the engine and firewall.
Let me know if you need a picture of the back of the pump. will be happy to help

Did you watch the video on replacement from FCP Euro? I think I’ve seen a video of the process somewhere but it’s been over a year since I did it.

It's not too hard. If you take out the intake manifold, the pump is right there. the space is a little bit limited but it's not too bad. Only three bolts.
I have not done it myself though. I was changing the oil filter housing gasket 2 months ago and I lost one of the intake manifold screws back there so I had to take photos/videos around that area so here is the photos for your reference. (photo taken on an F25 X3 w/ N20 engine. should be pretty similar to your F30 N20. |
