your top windshield washer fluid
dear canadadians,
we all, or most or some of us, are aware of the rainx (or silicone contents) windshield washer issue, where the windshield washer reservoir sensor could malfunction due to the silicone based washer fluids (ie: dash light for constant empty washer fluid even though it's full). besides oem bmw, what else works without issues? so which one are you exactly using and from where? also bear in mind the freezing part where cheapo fluids froze and cracked the reservoir. get: - walmart brand, blue fluid. - ct brand, blue fluid. - costco brand, green fluid. avoid: - orange rainx - yellow rainx (de icer) unknown (or mixed feedback): - purple rainx thoughts? please add to the list and if you could share your experience. (i understand it's something trivial, but also something that could easily be avoided - cost to fix). thanks eh |

I’ve been using either the Walmart or Canadian Tire blue fluid with no issues.

Last fall a local CT cleared out 27 jugs of a discontinued washer fluid: Motomaster -45C with degreaser. Have been using this fluid all winter without issue - have probably gone through half a dozen jugs thus far this season (I spray often). Wasn’t concerned as no silicone present but otherwise as mentioned I steer clear of Rain-X. Typically use the Turbo Power -40C and ensure the windshield is properly warmed. During last winter picked up some Super Tech (Walmart) summer washer fluid on clearance and happily used that product during the warm/hot months without issue. When the Rain-X -49C deicer washer fluid was on special for $1.94 at Walmart during Black Friday picked up a bunch for our commercial vehicle - it certainly works well but not for our German vehicles.

For me so far, only blue fluid FTW. the only time I had to use yellow/orange fluid with deicer and/or water repellent, the next day the fluid sensor begun to give me an error. I've almost used half of the tank the next day to be able top up with blue fluid. error code has disappeared right away

So glad I came across this, I've always used the cheap CT or Turbo brand blue stuff. Never bought the RainX because its so expensive but now I know it isn't good in our cars. Learn something everyday. .
