B58 Catted Downpipe Damaged?

Hi all,

Just opened a new ER Catted downpipe and noticed a bit of asymmetry in the cells as seen in the top. Wondering if there's any cause for concern getting this installed, is this normal? [IMG][/IMG]

Looks like the catalyst cannister banged into something probably before it was welded in. Similar to if something hit and bent your radiator fins. It doesn't cover much area so I wouldn't be so worried. It does ring alarms though about the overall quality of the part and I am sure you are looking over the rest of this part carefully.

Looks like it was dropped before being welded in (near that wrinkle line that radiates from the top inwards).

The build quality of that DP does not look very good. I'm surprised, because I thought ER was supposed to be one of the 'better' ones.
If I received that DP, I think I would return it.

What are you seeing that is bad build quality?

ER is normally pretty good at replacing stuff that has issues. If you are concerned just reach out to them.

Sorry to see that....I just had my ER catted DP put in today. It does look a bit scratched up ior something on the inside but maybe that’s just the angle or lighting. When did you receive it? And did you get the inspection check sheet? I guess it’s just a checklist where an ER employee checks unit before shipping. But I would try to return it to ER if you bought new

Would def also recommend trying to get a free exchange before putting on. Not sure what ER's warranty policy is, or how well their customer support is, but if you ever need to warranty it might want to limit all possibility of them denying a claim due to some damage.

It has all been said above:

- Most likely just a cosmetic damage, however
- Would return, as it would be difficult to monitor whether and how it evolves and you may get a warranty case denied if/when it fails
- The overall build quality of the DP looks cheap....

How much does this product cost? Based on the quality visible on the photos, I would guess 600-800 USD?

Nahhhh bruh… send that back. This ain’t it. You didn’t spend 600-800 on a product for it to look like that. ER is great with customer care… hooked me up quite a bit when I had my N54. Hope all works out well!

won't affect performance or reliability, but if you got it new and you don't mind waiting another week or 2 for an exchange, contact your vendor or ER directly

That's not my DP. I was just sharing my opinion of the DP build quality in the OPs pictures.

Don't go through all the trouble / cost of getting it installed then have to swap it in with a replacement when it rattles in the future

I'm aware it's not yours, second part was a comment for the OP.

I'm not sure what bad build quality people are seeing. The inside transitions/welds have all been polished/smoothed. The only issue is the ding on the cat.

It is all subjective. I am comparing with the "standard" in Europe - HJS DP and the Superior Akrapovic DP.
This one looks garage- hand-made in comparison. Just look at the lambda opening….
There is generally quite some room for improvement.

Update: ER sent me a new downpipe

For anyone installing an ER downpipe, theres some thicker spacers that you can use to avoid the issue mentioned below. I didn't get them with mine but I seen other posts where ER will send them once you contact.

However… I didnt know this when I installed the downpipe and it was rubbing against the undertray. The shop ended up cutting a small part of the undertray. Wondering if this would cause any issues?
