Cunning plan...what do people reckon?
So, I'm about to buy a 640d GC which is lovely except it's got 20" wheels and I HATE big wheels.
There is another 640d GC with the same dealer at their other branch which doesn't have as good as spec, and has 19" wheels... Both are "delivery milage" cars...around 60miles on the clock for both. Who thinks I could persaude the dealer to swap the wheels over? Seems a "win" to me all round...I get the wheels I want, the other car actually gets a "free" upgrade from 19" to 20" wheels... Suggesting it to the dealer..who thinks they will bite? |

I was looking to do the same on my newly acquired X5 - the dealer was initially receptive of the idea but the computer said 'no' when it came to the PCP. Maybe different between new and used, but the new car order on which my PCP was being provided had the wheels listed and the car would need to be returned with them. There might also have been a GFV effect.
If yours is technically approved used then they can possibly alter things without the same hassle?

Assuming you're not on the hook, Kyle above is right. Maybe easier to buy a set of 19s and then look to recoup your cost by listing your 20s once changed over.

Depends on the context
I'm going by my experience of swapping 19" to 18" on my 330d which at a stroke made the car significantly better. In the first year of being on the 18" I broke two wheels and had three new tyres. Since switching to 18" wheels - the car feels better and no wheel problems... Looking around the forums, many report ride issues on 20" wheels for the 6 series and several broken wheels...not seen any probs reported on the 19". Honestly don't understand the oversize wheel thing. |

Anything smaller than 20" looks too small on a 6GC. |

True. I still think the 435d will handle much better even with it's SE suspension though.

As others have said, a far nicer interior and much more refined than a 435d so for motorway munching it's almost certainly a far better tool for the job. The main downside for me is they're the size of an aircraft carrier but depending on how you're going to use it - and where you're going to park it - that might not be a problem. Good luck with it all, be interested to see some pics once you've taken delivery! |

I would say everything is just a "bit" nicer than in a 3/4 series. It's a bit quieter, it's a bit more refined, the interior is a bit nicer... How that possibly adds up to £74k I do not know, but with the reductions taking it down to 3/4 series money, suddenly it's a different prospect. I agree about the size comments up to a point. The reality is that actually driving in on a normal road, the size is no real issue, it justgets a bit scary on narrow roads and car parks. I don't ever drive in London...wouldn't want to take it there I have to say! Also might yet find RWD is annoying, having got so used to the X-drive in my 330D...especially come the winter, but for the moment, it's fine. |

£74k isnt really a mega step up. My F31 in its current trim was £54k list. Add on the posh leather seats (£3.5k), HUD + Adaptive cruise (£1.5k), heated rear seats (£.5k), posh dash and thats and extra (£.5k) and you're looking at £60k for a F31.
Add in a fancy paint code and that's a couple of grand more taking you to low 60's. Sure insulation and other refinement doesn't cost the difference but they'll sure charge for it. The car WILL be quieter than the 3 series. The car will have nicer materials than the 3 series. They also add on a bit extra just to make it that bit more premium |
